THE WRONG TRACK

I got going this morning just before daylight, and figured the conditions would be perfect. I cut my first track less than 20 minuites from the house. It came off a thick mahogany ridge and was head strait down into a rock canyon with a creek and willows in it. the track felt frozen so I opted to keep looking for a fresher track. Less than five miles up the road I cut a big tom track. The track was soft and seemed to be real hot. I cut kt out first and gave her a 10 minuite lead. I sent sue and copper out together. I was sure this would be over quick. Four and a half hours later of fighting snow above my knees We rocked up that tom bobcat. It took about an hour and a half to walk back to the road and another hour of road walking before a guy picked up me and the dogs and drove us the last mile or two to the pickup. I went back to that first bobcat track determined to salvage the day. I figured that even an old track shouldn't last any longer than the first. I turned kt out first and was going to give her a head start but before I could cut another dog loose she was treed. She didn't even make it 100 yards before she jumped and treed that cat. I pride myself on being a good tracker with all big game animals but that bobcat track realy got the best of me. if it wouldn't have been getting late I wouldn't have even went back to that track i would have just went and found another. So much for being the great white hunter.
