zane's first bobcat

yesterday started out with a good friend from central oregon driving over to hunt bobcat with me.mark and his 13 year old son zane. we ended up in a bad drainage. while roading dogs to get started hunting .marc's dogs started a cat track i got to him as soon as possible. we listened to the dogs trail off into a deep canyon with limited road access. i told mark when i stepped out of my truck that this would not be a place i would turn out ,especially at 4 pm. well the reason for this story is two things. marc's son and a new 6 1/2 month old english pup marc got from dustin meyer's and brian chorney's line. the dogs worked this old track for several hours before jumping the cat in a bad spot. by 8 pm. treed. by 9pm. the crew arrived at the tree marc, zane, my nephew brandon. with my bumb leg i couldn't make this tree. i sat across the canyon and enjoyed the hunt from a new location for me. at 9:10 a shot rang out and zane with one well place shot hit it's mark. i knew this was a bad hole ,so i helped guide them thru some slide areas.this new pup went from start to finish and was treeing like an old dog! i was pretty excited for the young hunter and his new pup.i figured it would be some time for the guys to hike out of this drainage. i had a roaring fire going when they arrived at 12:pm. we sat by the fire for about an hour before we walked out.zane said i think i'm ready for a cup of coffee. we drove to the all night truck stop to celebrate his success.this is one of the rare chances i get to brag. i earned this right by being a spectator with no dogs in the race. way to go zane!
