Well went out this morning and didnt cut a dang lion not even a day old one. So me and my buddy Kyler decided to take a walk to try to cut a lion or a bobber. Well we cut this fresh bobcat and turned my smokey dog out on it, not even 5 min they had him jumped. Well first that cat tricked him in a ledge. But old smokey figured that out. and when he got to the top of the ledge the cat just disappeared. He climbed this tree that wa sprobably only 5 foot tall and went to the end of the branch and jumped to another tree crazy. Not only that he didnt touch a nother patch of snow for a bout a hundred yards. Knowing that hes a smart one i didnt have that much time(it wa sabout 1:30 alrerady) so i decided to pull him off it and try to catch him another day.

Gotta love those bobs! LOL!

Bobcats are so at home in trees it is second nature for them and even as kittens they jump around in trees like monkeys and they become adept at moving thru the canopy of trees that touch or nearly do. Although we bobcat hunters naturally put snow and bobcats together in our minds in reality I don't think bobcats like snow. They will usually make every effort to walk on a patch of bare ground or rock if they can. We might equate this to them being so smart they don't want to leave a visable track to follow but in reality they would just as soon put their pads on bare ground. I have seen them walk a road that has been bladed to remove most of the snow. Where the blade is set a little lower and it hits dirt this is where they will walk on the dirt. On the sides of the roads watch where the top of the berm has melted bare they will walk there if possible.

They are interesting critters for sure and can be a real frustration to a trailing dog.The best cat dogs I have seen have been those that could trail them up to the jump and then drift them to the catch. The dogs that learn to pull that head up and go to the air and drift out and grab it and go will put the pressure on the cat, and when he leaves the ground from a rock and jumps ten feet or more up a tree they have to get that high air locate down pat too or they will go to a lose again and you may never find that cat that is hiding up there watching you.

Go give him a workout!

Sounds like thats one to be culled from the breeding program :D .
I run lots of cats but seldom kill any from around the house and you can certainly tell the one's that have played the game before, they get a little harder to catch every time you run em.
