HAS ANYONE OUT THERE RUNS BEARS IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO?
I'VE NEVER RUN BEARS BEFORE ONLY CATS AND COON'S. I'M LOOKING FOR A STARTING PLACE TO START SCOUTING (PUBLIC LAND). ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Bear Season in NM has not started!

Bear season in NEW MEXICO state wide starts Aug 16 - 31 in select Zone 2,3,5 & 6 with Dog use.
All other zones are closed,
Also all units open Sept 23- Nov15 except for Zone 4 which is Oct 15-Nov15

I seen a couple big boys up in the jemez and pacos, Was up with a friend checking out some hunting spots for him. Problem for the jemez you have a couple of outfiiiters that run that area and a few others it always loaded, Will try out pacos seen 5 b-bears on 3 diff ridges!

I would have to agree with Rockman, The Cuba mountains & Jemez and US Hill near Taos hold alot of bear per my hunting experience, not to many bruisers but enough to get the dogs treed. El Rito and the Canjilon areas have very few bears left , that is one area that gets hunted hard by the Virginians, the bear populations in those areas have really seen a decline in the last years. Good luck and keep em treed. By the way El Rito is no where near Cuba, your talking about a 50+ mile difference.
