I have asked this question and researched it a bunch. From what I have gathered from many hounds men the Field Marshal 400 and the Marshal collars are number 1. I have the GPS and love it. Its to bad you guys cant use the GPS. The GPS makes it safer to run your dogs just because there so much easier to find.

Tracker 1000 modified to also use a big Yagi if you need it and Quick Trac collars is very hard to beat.

I love the old Johnson though and I spent so many years with my Blue Box and awkward antenna I was pretty confident in it. I am glad to hear so many having good results with the GPS maybe in a few years I will give them a try. Most of the guys I know running them are still running theuir other collars just to be sure.

When I first started out I got a used RB 10 box the johnson blue one. It was good but bulky and a pain in the a** if I was on a horse. I since then have converted over to the tracker maxima and tracker strike collars and marshall lighted collars and I think that is the best one I can afford. I also would like to go garmin but right now they are the only game in town and we all know that with competition we will see better products so for now I will wait it out.

I'VE ENDED UP USING THE OLD BLUE BOX WITH JOHNSON COLLARS
ALTHOUGH MY BACKUP UNIT IS AN I-COM 420 YOU CAN TRACK ANY COLLAR FREQ YOU WANT, PLUS IT HAS A RECORDER ON IT SO YOU CAN RECORD ANY CONVERSATIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE WITH F&G
ITS AMAZING HOW THERE ATTITUDES CHANGE WHEN THEY KNOW THEY ARE BEING RECORDED.
