dad's Tom

Last November ,towards the end of it if I remember right, I cut a Tom track a day old or so and put a couple hours on it. As luck would have it he didn't layup with a kill like I was hoping but covered some country--I was darn shure I could cut his track further out and went for a look the next day--found it snowed in but...
Grabbed my dad who is getting along in years and suffered a massive heart attack a few years ago which resulted in open heart surgery three bi passes and a new valve gasket--considering that when he had the attack we were several hours from town on a horse trip by the time we made the hospital he was almost dead--Dad now has only 60% function--
The two dogs run the backtrack when I put them down--which has proven to mean it's pretty warm and after twenty minutes they came back sorting it out on there own and flying--opened on track as it dumped down into the draw and Dad and I were making tracks--I heard the jump maybe twenty more minutes and then it was quit for the dogs run down off the ridge--Dad was slowing down already just when I was hoping to pick up the pace but as we crested the ridge we found the Toms recent kill.
That ole buck I've hunted before--seen flashes of those antlers but he always given me the slip--he was exactly where I jumped him in October.
Can't stay for long dad had caught his breath some and we dived off the ridge after sorting tracks--weren't to long to hear them dogs treeing and libby and Lijah had done there job and Dad finished it. The ole man was a tad excited Buck fever and unsteady hold but he sorted it out and got the Tom-- The pic of dad says it all to me--so far the best day I have ever spent on the mountain with dad.

Thats a nice story,

I know that feeling packing your dad out of the woods during a heart attack.. I've done it twice once he was 3 miles in on a closed road (by foot), Not a fun situation.

It's Pretty lucky we got them around, Those old men are some fighters..

Glad to see him make it to a tree. Not always an easy task.

Thats just awesome. My dad just had both knees replaced last week, but I'm hoping he'll get in shape and do some hunting with me while we still can. Congrats to your dad. Live mount that thing and keep it forever.
