I went coon hunting last night and I started one in a big tomato field. We had 4 dogs on it and ran it for about 3 hours. Normally even in the tullys when my dogs find a good track they catch it within about 30 minutes. They ran this coon for about an hour in the same tomato field just running him back and forth and then the coon crossed Into another field where they caught him on the ground a couple of hours later. Why did my dogs have so much trouble? is it because a coon can get around faster in the tomatos? maybe thats what I get for runnin coon with bear dogs

to much scent on the ground at once. The coon was crossing its own path or maybe there was more than one. I have had the same trouble in corn fields.

Last year Bart dog had trouble pinning down the coon in sloughs around here. Only way I could get a coon out of there was to cut them off. Alot tougher than it sounds. He could chase a coon in a slough all night. Now that his sidekick is older I hope to have this problem resolved.

I would say there was more than one and there was soooo much scent trails that the dogs where having a tough time figuring out where it was at. Then they finally sorted through all of them and trailed it out in to the other field where there was not as much scent trails and they caught up with the coon and found it. That would be my guess.
