Well i cut the track thinking it was going to be an easy lion, cause the track looked small. well turns out it wasnt that easy of a lion. turned loose on it, he made a big circle and came just about to where i cut the track then he turned and headed up this rocky canyon called toliver creek. the dogs finally caught him, but as we were walking up he must of jumped or something took off over the west hillside of the canyon and luckily one of the dogs made it up out of there and went and caught him just on this 3 foot tall rock in a cedar flat. It was pretty neat, except for the fact that i lost two of my dogs that day, one for 3 days and the other for 5. they went back on diamond where the only way you could get to them is by snowmobils and i dont have any so you bet i walked my ass off looking for them. but finally some icefisherman that snowmobilled back in there found him. I bet i wont be turning loose on friday the 13th again lol.

o sh*t, yea it sucks loosing dogs especially when you know where they are but theres nothing in your power that you can do about it, to get to them. This happened to me this year, dogs went into Fort Bliss military grounds high unexploded ordinance area...

Yea, been there and done that before pat. I had an outfitter call me last winter wanting to buy a lead dog cause his had been killed by a lion. He had hunters coming and his younger dogs just wasn't finishing tracks he thought they should finish. After his second or third call I got to figured I was feeding nine hounds and it all has to end somewhere, so I traded him a five year old finished redbone for a sled and trailer knowing it would either get me out of a bind or into a worse one........

A month or so back I started a two day old tom track that was headed into rough country just after daylight. Around 4:00 PM I cut those hounds off on that sled crossing a ridge into nowhere land, and was glad I'd brought that thing along that day cause who knows if I would have ever gotten my pack back. There are places (and times of the year) that a person should not send a tough, good pack of hounds........

Glad you got those dogs back.

the thing bout sled is like ike said, they can get you in a worse pickel than you ever wished. i had one till it blew up, luckily i was with other guys, and thats wasnt always the case. when your ten miles from a pickup in knee deep snow all by yerself lookin for a stinkin cat to cross as road, you get to thinkin what a dumb ass you are, cause if it breaks down or you get hurt, your screwed. SO ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE WITH!!!! :D

nice pics tho. glad u got your dogs back alright

That is so true about 16 yrs ago we were cat hunting off of a sled it was my buddies he checked for tracks the first round and nothing we loaded sled and went to another spot and it was my turn to check for tracks, unloaded sled oh buy the way it was about -15 way to cold, just took off on the sled from truck and throttle stuck wide open. Hind sight I should have bailed but no I thought I could ride it out wrong pegged a tree at about 40 mph. 5hrs later in hospital with rod in my leg broken right femure. thank god buddy was there.
