Does anybody have these to know if they are really what all the advertising says. There isnt anywhere real close to me that sells them so i have no clue and dont feel like just ordering $400 boots without knowing if they are what they are supposed to be.

I've worn White's boots for several decades and havn't had but one bitch so far - The $400 price tag. They feel like you are standing on a 1" pipe for the first week or so, but you can't beat them after that. I have had several pair that I wore out 2 rebuilds on. After a while they just become part of you.

You'll get twice to three times the life out of a pair of white's, then you send em in to be rebuilt for alot less than a new pair and they show back up looking like a new pair. Smokejumpers for me

Never heard of Nick's boots???

Hawthorn's are made by Whites. The down side to them is they have a steel arch and use a thinner leather for the uppers than the White's. I've owned both and only own White's now. The last rebuild was $285 and you basically get everything brand new except the uppers.

Thanks guys. I assume you are all talking about the smokejumpers? I thought the Hathorns were supposed to be all leather??? maybe not. larry, Nicks are about the same and from what i have seen that guy started out at whites and then started his own business back in the 60's i think but am not sure

One more question guys. How high is the heel on the smokejumpers, measured straight up from the floor? Cowboy boots usually say how tall the heel is but i have never seen where Whites did.

I wear the smokejumpers for work, only boot I have had that could make it to another year. Will check out the Nick's. Not sure on the heel. Mine are pretty worn down and I'm gonna guess that they'll be 2 1/2-3inches???

I wear the "packer" model. I havn't owned a "smokejumper" before. The heel on mine is around 1 1/2". It doesn't matter which model you buy, it will be worth the money spent.

I dont think the weight should be any worse than the army surplus mickey mouse boots i usually wear. Plus i have had other leather boots that i just kept oiled and they held up. I also like a lot of ankle support which is another reason i am looking at whites. Another thing is i only buy boots made in the us

I thought that we were talking about work boots, not hunting boots. I use danners for hunting and hiking. I have two pair that I alternate so they are always dry when I put them on. I have the "montana hunter" and "trophy". I also ride in the "montana". They have enough heel to keep my foot from going too far into the stirrup.
thats just my .02
