Got home yesterday morning from work. Passed my 10 yr old son going down to feed the horses. I was about to hit the rack when I heard the wife yelling about something..The wife normally yells at me, but I could tell she was she was pretty upset. I put a pair of shorts on and met her out in the mud room. My boy was all out of breath as he had run up from the horses . He told that there was a snake down by my dog kennels.. He told me that he thought it was a baby rattlesnake...

Not really putting a lot of credence on the rattlesnake bit. I put on my flip flops and headed down to the kennels....I grabbed a rake from the hay barn and opened the gate to my kennels. My boy told me that it was right behind the gate . I looked behind the gate and didnt see anything. I moved a spare dog house and there it was. My son was wrong, it wasnt a baby rattlesnake , It was a grown one... ..That sucker was all coiled up and ready to go...NEVER rattled one time...I proceeded to hammer him with the rake untill I got tired....It was about 3 and a half foot long......I HATE those things man...

People tell me that they dont hurt anyone and they shouldnt be killed....I KILL EVERYONE I COME IN CONTACT WITH....They just ruin my day...

Had a buddy call today and told me that his dog got bit last night by a ratltesnake... the dog passed out in the water and almost drowned...He said the dog was doing pretty good today. He had given all his dogs that anti venom shot, but didnt give the booster... The vet told him that if he had not given that shot , the dog probably would have died....

I was going to give my dogs the shot, but they are danged expensive.....Does anyone know where you can buy that vaccine at a reasonable price?????

Be careful out there....Coop

Howdy Coop, the rattlers in our neck of the woods are actually pretty hard to make bite short of stepping on them, but those Mohave Rattlers you guys have are another story and deserve a good "Raking" :D

I just had the same thing happen last sunday. I work out of town alot in the summer and camp out, I always take the dogs with me to keep them in shape and do a little hunting after work.
I have a friend that lets me kennel my dogs at his cow camp when I'm working in that area and it is known to be a little snakey so I always look real good before putting my dogs out there. I had just finnished putting my dogs up and feeding when I was making one final pass around the kennel when there it was right next to the kennel and my foot. I think all the urin and poop I left on it had it confused because it didn't even try to get away it just waited for me to get my pistol and dispatch it.
I'm glad it was the only one I found out there because if I would have had to throw away another pair of underwear I wouldn't have had enough to last me the week.... I don't like those things...

carry benadryl with you. dog gets bit give him 5-6 pills and put him up. should be ok in a couple days. must be the real benadryl not the store brand. also helps when a human gets bit, but get medical attention immediately
