is anyone out there running any pure bloodhounds in there pack? just wondering if any were running big game successfully. I picked up a two year old male from a guy who had been running him on bear and i am itching to see how he does...

i have only seen him tree on coons myself and he does well. he is more the type to jump and climb then sit and bark treed. his trailing is amazing i had the chance the other day of putting him on a day old lion track he worked the trail really nice for a couple hours before he lost it in some rocks. his top speed is amazing pushing 30mph at a dead run, but keeping him in running shape requires alot more work than my smaller hounds..

i do not really think he is any colder nosed than your typical cold nosed hound, however the way he uses his nose is diffferent when he trails he lowers his head about a foot off the gound and runs with it in a very smooth gait. even on a cold trail he never rubs his nose in the dirt like other hounds will.he also has never had any desire to chase hooved animals it seems to me he is in it for the love of trailing not the chase...

I have run a few bloodhounds and crosses over the years. I personaly didn't like their speed on a track they would sit and mill around on a track I thought they should be moving alot better than they did.Could never drift a track, one speed and that wasn't very fast. I didn't like their tree at all, I too found them jumping and climbing at the tree with very little tree. Another thing I have found with the bigger dogs is they just don't hold up as good as the smaller dogs, day in and day out. like you said they take alot more to keep them in running condition. They didn't have the prey drive. They sure are pretty

HELLOW FROM CANADA,,,I RUN MAJESTIC HOUNDS, FROM LAINSING DELEE IN NEW YORK,,,RECENTLY ADDED A BLOODHOUND,,A LANCE FROM GEORGIA,,ACTUALLY WE GOT FOURTEEN OF EM DOWN THERE,,,,AND A PERSONAL STATEMENT,,,,THEY CANT KEEP UP TO MY PACK, THEY DONT HAVE THE GRIT WHEN IT GETS TOUGH,BUT ON OTHER HAND THEY TAKE ME TO THE HOUNDS, AND CAN FIND ANY WOUNDED ANIMAL,,,,,SO I REALLY THINK THE FIRST CROSS WITH BLOODHOUND AND ANOTHER HOUND IS THE BEST,,,,,,,,,,
