Does anyone know where I can get some antibiotics for my hounds without having to go through a vet? My hounds are constantly getting cut up bad from hunting (cats or coons) and I can't afford to always take them to the vet to get a prescription. Any help would be appreciated.

Got a large bottle of Penicilan from Revival Animal also I think I have bought it from Hunt smart. You can buy the needles and everything.

I'll second the Fish Flex and Fish Mox. They're in pill form, no pissing around with needles and syringes.

livetohunt, I got my last stuff from entirelypets.com, it's under the Birds and other pets section. Or you can google non prescription pet meds. They label it for fish use, but then you can get it with no prescription. The fish cycline (tetracycline) also takes care of lymes, from tics. I did have one dog that was allergic to the cephalexin, did'nt find out till to late (that cephalexin was from the vet). We staple alot of bear dogs ourselves and use the Fish Mox or Fish Flex for antibiotics. Have had good luck and saved a boat load on vet bills.

I'm no vet, just cheap, use at your own risk. :beer

You can get all the meds like Fish Flex, Fish Mox, Fish Zol etc... from most any vet supply store or feed store in you area. These meds are sold for Fish use, but its the same pill as any prescription pill you'll get.

Several years ago my wife was sick and the Doctor perscribed amoxicillin. She went and picked up her meds and came home. I saw them then took her over to my dog meds and showed her the same exact pill that she payed $50 for 30 or less. Verse $15 for 100. needless to say we all use the fish/dog meds now.

I found Fish Amoxicillin Professional Strength Antibiotics
Price: $19.99 for 100 pills @250 mg.
and Fish Cycline Professional Strength Antibiotics
Price: $19.99 for 100 pills @250 mg.

On http://www.huntsmart.com/
Now what is the diffrents with the two? And how many and how offten would you give them the pills? I know with a shot I would give them once per day for about three days. Is it the same with the pills?

You can google the dosage for each antibiotic.

I've been using the fish mox, for the first couple days I give them 10mg per pound of dog weight, twice a day. After 2 or 3 days I give them 5mg per pound twice a day. I usually give it to them for 7 to 14 days depending on the wound. I usually get the 500mg tablets.

I just got anothet bottle, bear training season starts July 1, and I have a couple that don't know when to get out of the way. :D
