Labor Day Bears

I wish every labor day was as fun as this one. I had a buddy who drew a fall bear tag and invited my brother and law and I into go hunting with him over the weekend. First day we caught a sow, loaded up the dogs to see if we could go find a boar. The strike dogs struck another bear later in the day but no luck. Second day we ran a bear in the morning but never did catch up to him. We did have a decent deer race with a couple of the pups though.
Later on that day around 2:00 we got another stike and dumped the box. Another small bear but I did get some pretty good footage of the dogs in action.

Last day we thought we would outsmart Mr. Bear. We figured it was the same bear we had run the two days prior. The final score ended up 3-0...bears won. We did catch another little sow later that day to redeem ourselves! Final score was Bears 3 Us 3. Three days with three bears isn't to bad. :D

Big Game ...I am right with you.....God did I laugh.

1st bear I ever saw was treed by a sinlent mouth cur dog and when I walked in to her the sow barked above my head about 6 feet they never thought I would stop running.

Nice job by you and the hounds

I wish we could find a bear walking that slow. Maybe the dogs could keep up with it. The dogs and the bear look worn out. Nice videos.

Thanks

Thanks guys. The dogs were very worn out. They had already unsuccessfully been on a bear that same morning and it was a runner! This bear they hadn't run that long. He did finally go up a tree though.

Good video, thanks for sharing. We have just a few units that open for dogs before labor day. I went up in one opening day. I just collared the dogs up and let them out of the truck to empty out and they started a bear(or actually 3 bears). Unfortunately all the bears swam the river over into the closed unit. One dog treed one by herself, some of the others had a real nice bear bayed up, and the others finally got outrun. The next day I was back and agian had a split race. Treed one and my uncle was along and shot it. Had three dogs cross out of the unit again and then head up river into a roadless area. Spent three days on foot hiking back in to get them. Including spending half of one night crawling around in the bluffs in a thunderstorm, by flashlight. Finally found a spot with some wood and a flat spot big enough I wouldn't fall off of when I was asleep and built a fire. Had to wade the river about waist deep a couple times and then hike out in wet boots. So I caught 3 bears but wouldn't necessarily call it a good weekend. Don't know if the 3 dogs ever caught up with their bear or not. Their treeing switches were going off for a long time but needless to say when I met them they were working their way out on very sore feet.
