This is the sixth time its happened.I've spent alot of money to advertise a stud dog and just as things start going good something bad happens.At least this time he's still alive.But after a serious bout of lyme disease,that took forever to diagnose cause we ain't got it here and I had him vaccinated before he went to Wisconsin.Rock was officially diagnosed as sterile this week.I took two females of mine in to find out how many pups we might have and both were empty so we checked him and it was him.You think I would have learned by now but its still a fun ride.My uncle mick taught me a quote along time ago that I like to use when talking about my luck with advertised stud dogs,"Its a good life if ya don't weaken'." So I got on the horn and I made a deal to get one of his good young sons bought back.

That sucks, from what I read up on ROCK is that he is a damn good dog that can hunt. A good sterile dog is better than a dead dog though. Continue to enjoy hunting with him.

Travis, I have a easy fix for you next time. Collect the Heck out of your next one I have 3 of my best collected and it sure is a ease of mind.And pretty cheap if you take into concideration replacing one or buying back one of his offspring.

I just saw on the news that they cloned a police dog that worked 9/11... they said anyone can get thier dog cloned for a mere $138,000!! I am guessing it better be one heck of a dog, you can buy a house for that in some areas

It can actually be done for about half that. Cloning has become a huge deal in the equine world. People in that industry have enough money to afford something like that and salivate at the idea that Mine That Bird or even Secretariats pure speed, muscle twitch, and endurance could be duplicated. I've studied it extensively at school. (I'm a semester away from having a Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business). It's very intriguing to think about applying it to hounds and I'm sure someone will try it at some point in the future.

Take a minute and Think about the possibilities.

Travis, for example, you could have an exact DNA match to Rock. DNA match does not mean visually identical, but genetically identical yes which is all that matters since widely accepted public opinion is that looks are worth a couple piles of poo and thats probably it.

Theoretically you would have the same blank slate potential that you started with on the donor. So rock at 6 months again, another shot at making a super star, only in theory you would start knowing all the tools were there. Since the genes are already in the correct order.

Ike, you could have Choco II. Think about that potential, you could have a pack of 10 lion riggin superstars. Since people think genetics are so important you would erase the chance of a hound not producing quality pups. we are talking exact genetic match, so with the publics accepted emphasis on genes you should be guaranteed results without the risk of hoping the dog can reproduce it's traits both desireable and undesirable. Right? Who knows really, a large majority of cloned animals usually have lots of health problems so nothing's really guaranteed.

But if you had that once in a lifetime dog that just set the world on fire, how much would it be worth to you to have another one just like him? How much would it be worth to you if he became sterile and you lost any chance of having another just like him?

One of you famous guys should give Wade Lemon a call and ask him how much he'd pay to have an exact genetic match to his old Copper dog. I'd be curious what he'd value that dog at since from what I understand he is about as picky as they come when it comes to hounds and still rates that dog as the best he's ever seen.
