I got sick of the rivets that come with the name plates you order so I started using copper belt rivets, they work great and you can get them at most hardware stores.

I just bought some extra nameplates for when other folks run their dogs on my ranches, That way if someone finds our dog they know what ranch to bring them back to. My point is that they shorted my the rivets. I was just wondering what I could use instead. Thanks for the info...

One other thing that you can use is a small flat head bolt (Allen Head) and a nylock nut. I use size 10-32 or 1/4-20 and just long enough to put the nut on so none of the bolt sticks out. I have some collars that the name tag has been on for 15 years. The brass tag will wear out before that plate comes off. You can get them at any hardware store for pennies.

Those are very nice Dan. How much do you figure they cost you to make? No Doubt they will be worth it even if they cost a little extra they should last a long time. Thanks for sharing

I think they were around 10-12 bucks a piece. No real savings, but the ring should never wear out. And looking at old buckles on dog collars, most of them seem to be in good shape. The cost goes way down if you reuse your hardware. Then you are only into it for the price of the leather and the rivets (which are real cheap). I bought a little bit larger ring for these collars than what is on the store bought collars; because the leather I used was thicker than the nylon on the old collars and I needed more room to fold the leather back onto it's self.

I'm going to make some collars out of betathane. I have been using betathane for the last few years as driving lines on my work harness. Its tough and has no stretch to it. I'll let you know how it works. If anyone has tried this let us know.
