Re: Desert Lion Home Ranges

Several years ago I was helping F&G with a female lion. She had been caught in a bobcat trap, they released her with a GPS collar. Fast forward a year or two, the battery was going to go dead and they wanted to catch her and get their collar back. Anyway, the biologist sent me a map showing ever...

Re: Stock rack with dog boxes

The last time I researched this same topic, the answer I came up with was to go to a local horse trailer manufacturer and try to talk them into building one. They didn’t have anything like that in their lineup, it would be a completely custom build.

Re: Lion Magnets

With some of these places, it makes me wonder how many hundreds or thousands of years lions have been doing the same thing in the same place.

Lion Magnets

LION MAGNETS- I’m talking about places lion are drawn to. A place that if a lion is using a particular piece of country, they are drawn to these places and frequent them. A good friend of mine who has been helping me along the way, encouraged me to find these magnets and hunt them. He told me many s...

What happened?

I’m curious about the lack of activity on this sight compared to 10-15 years ago. Is it other social media platforms? FB, Instagram etc?

Re: Saw length

I’ve got a 24” Fanno saw and like it. But, id also like to try one of those Silky Katanaboy folding saws. The lengths are in centimeters, so there’s a 500,750, 1,000 etc. but since they fold, it gives you some reach. The YouTube videos on this saw show it flying through some pretty good sized timber...

Re: Short Rough Pack Trip

Seems to be a reoccurring theme, lack of trail maintenance. Seems like there are fewer and fewer people using stock in the back country and a lot of the old trails on the maps aren't maintained or are simply gone after fires and numerous decades. I visited with an old family friend who used to spend...

Re: How far will a lion travel in one night.

I know I've trailed some all day and I don't think I was any closer at the end of the day than I was at the beginning! A thought I've had on Toms: I've heard the biologist believe the biggest motivator for a Tom is reproduction (spreading their genes and measuring their prowess with other males). No...

Re: Utah Panniers

There's a guy in Idaho named Jake Filmore who makes some great panniers. His are the heavy canvas type with leather ends ( similar to the Ray Holes type). However, he builds them a little bit different. Instead of having leather and canvas sewn together on the corner where they take a lot of wear hi...

Re: Why I never roped a Lion?

Emily, thanks for posting that. You know the mis-spelling of Mogollon by the author reminds me of a couple of other places that the mis-spelling stuck. I was told the Owyhee mountains were named that by miners and prospectors who trying to say and spell Hawaii after some Hawaiian mine workers or sla...

Re: Winter Truck Box

Nolte, how deep is that box? (From the cab towards the tailgate) I'm thinking about building one like that, but two compartments on top and large dog compartment under it, so I can still pull a gooseneck trailer, thanks

Re: Barometric Pressure.

The info on the smoke is great. It is a great visual tool to help explain what is going on with the air. Also, think about how smoke acts when the source is next to a creek vs up on a high ridge. I was thinking about this the other day when I was watching a show on back country pilots who fly into t...

Re: intelligent hounds

JTG, How do you add any of those drives to an existing dog? Sure you can breed them into a line of dogs, but how do you make an existing golden retriever have the herding drive of a border collie? Take a great locating tree dog for example, is that not genetic? Did that pup get that at conception? O...

Re: intelligent hounds

Think about all of the different drives out there. Prey drive Tracking drive Trailing drive Wind or airborne scenting drive Fight drive Herding drive Guardian or protection drive Retrieval drive Treeing drive Etc. These drives are the road map to your dog. Look at. Guardian or protection drive for e...
