I tried a few kemmers and hunted with several from the above mentioned names and none of them were what i consider bear dogs. They couldn't stay all day on a runner and would quit quickly on a bay up or a mean one. Curs interest me somewhat but kemmers were a disappointment. Just my experience but i am sure they make some people happy.

Justahunter you are from Scott Rios part of Id.Scott hunted bears there for a few years and I bet you heard or saw Saber on bears. He was there long after the hounds quit!!!!!!And he never quit a tough one!!!I have owned and hunted many hounds and did not get close to the bear dogs in hounds that I got and have out of curs!!!I have tried a lot of plotts and never got a line that could catch lion and bears here in AZ.I am sure there some I just never got one, never got a walker either!!!

I am sure there are good ones. As your showing. We as in i and everyone in these parts have had or seen what we call true bear dogs.
I am sure there are alot out there but none ever turned up here. And they were supposedly bred with all the big names like striker and nugget ( those are the ones i remember hearing)

I would agree, Bear dogs don’t turn up very often. I’ve never seen any breed throw them as consistently as I would like! The pictures are just an illustration for those that keep saying they don’t exist. Truthfully, your gonna have a hard time finding many Kemmer’s anymore with the same big game traits that you could years ago. The push for squirrel dogs really was and still is their downfall. However, make no mistake, there was and still are a few damn good Kemmer bear and hog dogs. The dogs in these pictures were all what you call True bear dogs. All could and did do it alone time and time again.

People will hunt what they like, nothing wrong with that. Just remember it’s a big world out there.

Kemmer’s are not gonna please very many hound men, for various reasons. Just like hounds will not please very many Cur men. Doesn’t make either side right or wrong, just means they each go about their business in their own way.

Crank hadn’t been with this bear but 8 hours by himself. The old man never let me down and was never outran or out trailed by any hound he was ever hunted with.

I know a lot about Saber as he was my Dog .Scott had for a time to hunt him.He was as long range as any hound and grittier than any plott ever welped!!!!!!!He caught a lot of bears in Az and we don't pop them off baits.

McClain’s Frosty HJ.
If you’ll notice, you don’t ever see more than 2 or 3 dogs at a time in these pictures. It doesn’t take 5 or more of them Kemmer’s to do the job like it does hounds. I can’t hunt more than 3 and occasionally 4 together cause they won’t bay when they have that much help, they get too catchy. Most times 3 is way to many if they are all grown dogs they won’t walk a bear, they’ll down one! I’m not a road hunter or a bait hunter. I leave my truck on foot and my dogs strike and catch their own bears. There ain’t no reinforcements being packed or someone waiting on them to cross a road to send more help. They start and finish what they start or they don’t live long here. We do rig some when it’s really hot or when they just blow up in the box on the way in somewhere.
