Cur for bear

Postby little e kennels » Fri Feb 03, 2017 3:50 pm

I am looking to purchase my first bmc and I want to run them on bear. What are some good blood lines to look for and are there any breeders that I should look at for there hounds

Are you looking to add a BMC to a pack of bear hounds or build a pack of BMC to run bear ?

Look up Boar Runner ( Bob Fogel) on this site. He can tell you all you want to know about BMC. The phone number on his profile is no longer in service. PM him on here or look him up on Facebook. I don't give out others numbers.

A guy that lives down the road from me has some BMC. He hunts them on bear, lion, and coon. He catches alot of game with them. They tree pretty good but they don't make a sound on track. I guess with today's GPS you can keep track of your dogs without hearing them but I still enjoy hearing a good race.

There are better curs for running big game imo. I have had BMC and I hunt with a few that parnters have. Real good hog dogs, silent to semi silent on track but I just feel like especially for bear you want at least a semi open to fully open dog. But if you are stuck on yellow cur dogs I would look into Striker bred Kemmer curs. They have been bred for bobcat, lion, and bear for a while and have done real well. JMO

Why in the world do you want a dogs thats tells the bear here I come?????All of the silent curs that I run lion and bear with catch most on the ground and make the race a lot shorter!!!!!If you want a Striker bred cur go to Derril,Bill,or Mike Fry,they will tell a close
Striker bred cur will be open with a bawl. The ones I have had were cold nosed ,open, and slower trailing curs. That is what Derril has bred and wanted out of his dogs for a long time.I have curs with Striker in them but they have a lot of other cur lines to make them silent and fast track curs.I only keep very gritty curs that are fast track and good tree curs.

I only want to catch bear, not listen to dogs barking!!!!!If all you want is to hear is a race it does not matter what type of hound you have.If you want to catch it really matters!!!I have glassed bears in a prickly pear patch eating pears and heard the hounds coming and the bears left when they heard the hounds,23 minutes later the hounds got to the patch.I don't want to give a bear a head start like that.Western bears are thin and cover a hell of a lot country in 23 minutes.I had hounds many years back, but changed to silent curs and have caught a lot more game.
