Fox and bobcat books

Postby Jackaldog » Sun Apr 24, 2011 7:29 am

Hi I live in South Africa and try and hunt jackal and caracal with my hounds. The most simialr comparision in US i think would be red fox and bobcat. Would anyone know a good hound book on these subjects? I am interested in info on hounds as well as hunting. Cheers

Thanks tman308. I have found the book on Abebooks, which Dads Dogboy told me about.

Stories of Old Traveler, by B. S. Jones. It is all bobcat hunting, and good hunting stories, not much about background or bloodlines of the dogs, but good descriptions of how each dog performs.

There's a novel about foxhunting on foot in Appalachia called Hunter's Horn by Harriet Arnow, written and set toward the beginning of American involvement in Worl War II. Its pretty good literature, and tells a lot about how fox hunts worked back then. Its a little grim--the people it describes are dirt poor--but I found it a good read. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it on Abebooks.
