I keep a little wire screen on me for that reason . Small lath like for tile works too . Roll up the bait inside , wrap with wire . Wire that to a stout root or tree/rock , etc . I will wire it in the back of a cage trap or to the inside of the top of the cage . Right over the trigger is good . They may still get it but the will have to work for it .

Oiler coach Bum Phillips when asked why he takes his wife on all the road trips.
Phillips: “Because she is too damn ugly to kiss good-bye.”

COONKILLER18 WHEN IM TRAPING A COON I USE AN APPLE TAKE A PIECE OF WIRE AND WIRE THE APPLE TO THE BACK OF THE TRAP. YOU WILL HARDLY EVER CATCH A SKUNK OR A SQUIRRLE WITH AN APPLE . CUT A COUPLE PIECES OFF AND TROW IN FRONT OF THE TRAP. GOOD LUCK

The squirls love apples. So do rabbits, rats etc. Mice are the big bait steelers. They eat everything.

I like to use some 1 1/4" pvc about 3-4" long drill 4-5 1/4" holes around it so they (coon) can smell it but still have to get in the trap and work at it to get the bait out. I then put 4 wood screws in the bottom to make an x to hold the bait in. Then drill a small hole right at the top to add some wire to hang it from. I can make about 20 of them in about 10 min once I get going. I put a large marshmallow in them first then add what ever other bait like molasses to the top. Then just hang it from the back of the trap have not had any misses after I started using these and can bait and set a lot of traps fast.

There was a few cops here in Utah who decided to land their police chopper at a Crispy Cream, Pretty damn funny. They got in a little trouble however..

The reason you caught a skunk is because you had the trap sitting on the ground. Get it up off the ground, maybe in a tree or sitting up on a stump, your skunk problems will go away.
