Phipps Blueticks

Just wondering about these dogs. Who has tried them, are the cold nosed? Anyone from Michigan try them?

I have a pup that is just turning a year old from Steve. So far we really enjoy him. He has done a great job in his training. Heels off leash, loads in the box without help up, handles really well and doesn’t need to be on a chain in the yard. I’m not sure if this is normal of all of Steve’s hounds or not but so far he has been 100% silent on track but the hardest treeing hound I’ve hunted with. He usually locates the tree with 2 or 3 long bawls then goes straight into a every breath chop mouthed dog and he never needed any encouragement to tree, he loves to do it. As far as his nose goes I would say he’s a medium nosed dog so far but shows signs of being able to pick up a cold track but he’s just not completely confident in what to do with it yet. The bottom line is I would and probably will purchase another dog from Steve’s line again.

Thanks for this. Good to know. What do you hunt with the hound?
