Jumped cat

Postby Bluedog88 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 11:00 pm

Anybody notice their dogs having a hard time following the track once the cats jumped?

Blue dog lots of dogs have trouble keeping a cat moving after they jump. Some times dogs get better after lots of practice, however some dogs never figure it out. True balanced cat dogs , strike track & tree hard to find in one dog, most who catch cats consistent have the correct combination of dogs in the pack. Al

On a race this morning I could tell the cat was jumped a short race I get to the tree and it's empty? I dogs kept working but never found where the cat jumped. First time this happened. If I put my dogs on a track and the can smell cat in it they'll start opening. In 3 years that's ment It's a good as in the bag Unless it goes down a hole.

With the weather conditions it is tougher to keep after a cat. With these conditions freezing in places and not under the trees, the sun thawing open spots with the cats traveling the roads with the nice weather it becomes a little harder to figure out whats really going on for you and the dogs. If your dogs were laid up most of the year like mine were the first few bobcats are hard to catch. I think the dogs are taking much older tracks that what we are use to in typical Oregon rainy weather. I know that sone of the boys that have there dogs tough and hunted hard are catching cats. The beginning of the season and clear cold weather with freezing conditions always makes it a little more challenging. good hunting all Dewey

If dog is missing cats consistently once they are jumped it's time to look for a new hound. Andy

Not 100%. this morning cut a track I wasn't sure if it was a huge bob or a tiny lion it was a small lion. Jumped twice dogs had no problem.

Ya but lions have a lot more scent, and if the tree was even a little thick to where a bobcat could hide enough u could have just not saw it. Ive been walking away from trees after looking and glanced back and saw it

Dewey put it best tough conditions right now, first off did they tree the cat or did they false tree and never could recover from the lose? You seen the cat jump twice?
