Re: Let’s talk.
Muleman, I’ve got a couple dogs I can rig loose on the box. When they strike I can stop and tell em to go find it. If they can’t work it out I tell em to load up and they get back on top, I don’t have to get out of the truck. I usually do get out to see if I can find a track though. But I like roadi...

Re: Let’s talk.
My dogs open rigging very well. I only run fox and bobcats. My problem is they rig everything! I put them down they do not run the trash but they dang sure rig it. It’s very aggravating, fox and cats are scarce but yotes, deer, bear and possums are very very numerous.

Re: Dogs fault or owner
I have few problems keeping numerous running walkers together. The bitches are worse than the males. I have 2-50’ x 100’ pens, one for males, one for females. As stated above, I handle aggressive behavior early, swiftly and harshly. But in 50 years i have had a couple males injured from fighting to ...

Re: Pure or cross bred
I like tight bred registers walker fox hounds for fox and cat hunting but that doesn’t mean that cross bred dogs are inferior or don’t have their place. I agree with a lot of examples expressed with one exception. I too want all the littermate of a sire or dam to be cracker jacks with one exception ...

Lawdawg, I’m right there with you. And when I’ve had deaths of loved ones to deal with I’ve had many people to come comfort me but seems I got the most comfort by getting a chair and just sitting with the dogs in the dog pen.

Reagade, I’ve gotten to where when I have females in heat, I leave the male dog at home and take all the females. Works better for me.

Re: What makes a true “dog man/ woman/ hunterâ€
Idk what would be classified as a true dogman.they come in all variations like people in all walks of life. And there are dog men breeders and dog men hunters some are both. Some great hunters shouldn’t be allowed to own dogs because of no better care than they take of them, but they are great hunte...

Re: Age of track
For years I deer hunted and fox hunted with same hounds. Hounds that could consistently trail and jump a 8 hour old deer track, at times had trouble even smelling a 30 minute old fox track. But it’s got a lot to do with the scenting conditions. Last Friday night me and a buddy ran a fox 2 hours with...

Re: yote race distance
I have friends that run them at night. They say they pretty much stay within hearing if you stay still and quite, but if you get to driving around trying to head em off and shining lights, then it will change zip codes.

Re: Fox vs coyote
Muleman I think they just run up on it and ran it out of frustration, I’d went quite a few trips prior to that incident without running anything. I had 5 dogs, 3 old dogs I trusted as broke and 2 young dogs that at this point would probably run anything. One of the older dogs (4 year old) opened a c...

Re: Fox vs coyote
Correction to my above post on Dec 24th, had a trash coyote race last week.
By the time I figured out it was wrong they were out of hearing. By the time I caught up with em to get it stopped we’d made a 8 mile circle almost back to where they started it.

Re: Hounds Running
I know a lot of times, I can smell a fox after it and all the hounds have crossed the road, so I know ALL the hounds can smell it no matter how many are running it. Other times smelling conditions are tough, fox is not very far ahead of a large pack but only a few opening. Sounds more like trailing ...

Re: training to improve cold trailing?
Had hounds my whole 64 year old life, my dad and granddad had hound. I don’t believe you can make a cold trail dog, they are born. I’ve seen a 9 month old puppy out trail good older dogs. I’ve always bred for nose but most of the time there may be one pup out of a litter of 10 can do it. Lately have...

Re: Why a x breed
Al, I call my fox/cat dogs broke, if any of the 3 older ones leave the road or open I am confident it is right. Never known how pressure broke they are because I don’t hunt with anyone who’s hounds are not the same. But one night this summer a friend and I was hunting together running a fox they was ...

Re: first post
Let me know how that not getting addicted to cat running goes. I’ve been addicted to fox hunting since I turned 16 (I’m 64 now). Started messing around trying to run more cats 5-6 years ago, an uncle (a old retired from cat hunting) told me, boy, you keep messing with them cats and before long you’l...
