Re: Hot weather Hunting . . . . .
Well here on the East side of the country I have found that the bear are still there it's just a lot harder to strike them from the truck. For examlpe I saw a bear cross the road one day in August and has we drove over it the hounds acted as if nothing had ever crossed the road............But we put ...

Re: best breed for bear
If it came from Van it had some Kamphouse Plott in it.
He was out of a cur of Ernie Crammer's and a dog named Copper. I think Wade Lemmon had the Copper dog. And I think that dog was red and white in color. Plott if any it wasn't much.

Re: best breed for bear
I like the Black & Tans but the best dog I ever had was a mixed up dog i got from Van Johnson. And I did say (dog) because Lord only know's what was in that thing. But he would put a bear on the limb.

Re: Hound traits????
Well it's true! I can't disagree! Hounds do need both brains & desire. But just like us hunters it's desire that gets us out of bed to go chase hounds all over the country not brains. I think desire has to be the strongest trait for a hound. Just like us hunters hounds need that desire to push them ...

Re: Hound traits????
Thanks Larry,
Your right I forgot about brains that is a very important one.
That reminds me of a dog that I hunted with that had more nose than brains. He could smell the track but that was about it.

Re: Hound traits????
Well Larry I'm sorry that you just don't get it.
A lot of guys I hunt around are after speed. And I think DESIRE is the most important trait for hounds. Every body has hounds that will run a bear but not many have hounds that run to catch. And I think that takes DESIRE.
