Re: when to give up on a hound
I started 2 pups in the pen. Took them three times. Each time they did a little better but didn't set the world on fire. Took them out in the woods behind the house and they hunted out, struck, trailed and jumped a coyote - took him for a good ride till it crossed out of the block. Never went back ...

Opinions on bobcat movement
We had about 8 inches of powder snow last Friday night. Temps in the teens. Saturday morning not a track to be found. Freecasted a huge swamp for several hours - nothing there laying we could stir up. Found a partly snowed in track around noon under the hemlocks and was able to get that track ...

Re: PA cat hunters
The web site to check out is http://www.kcshounds.com. Several PA and NY cat hunters on there. Of the 4 most successful cat hunters I know of in those two states - 2 use walkers, 1 uses Plotts and one uses Plotts and Mt Curs. I don't know of anyone using Blue dogs.

Re: Training a Coyote Hound on Bobcat
A dog hunted on yotes for that long may be a little too loose of a track dog to do a good job on a cat track, but if given enough opportunities, she may tighten up and learn to screw them down. I'd give it a try. Just like yote hunting (with snow), find a track and drop her, or as others say, walk ...

Re: New/old tree dog hunter
Good luck in your venture. I'm right there with you in the quest to make a cat dog. Buy the book "Bobcat Dog" by David Peightal. I think if you go back a couple pages on this forum you'll find ordering info for it. I'm not finished with it yet, but it certainly got me thinking alot differently.

Re: In its prime vs pup trainer
So Dewey, at what age do you typically feel your dogs have passed their prime?

In its prime vs pup trainer
I realize it can vary from dog to dog, but on average, at what age would say a dog has gone from being a high producing dog to more of a "pup trainer" ??

Re: runnable tracks
Best I've seen was taking, running and jumping a cat on a confirmed 12 hr track. One thing I've seen this year with the bitter cold temps we've had, is my dog being to take a track when it's minus 10 degrees and running it better than when it's 25 degrees and getting warmer as the day goes on. I ...

Re: Anyone from ME?
Sorry to change the subject on you guys, but when you say "put bait up" do you literally mean up off the ground? I thought I heard of people doing this so the yotes don't clean out all the bait, just checking??
