Better check your local game laws - out west most states don't allow Game animal parts or game fish for bait (even heads etc ). Don't want to get a ticket - there are some great lures and baits you can also purchase . Also check out " egg coon trap " in most trap supply books.

Re: looking for finley river Banjo dogs
Need to be more specific - Finley River Chief ? Hurt's Bawling Banjo ? Johnson's Banjo? Hard to Not to find some of that somewhere in most of the walkers today. But it is hard to find it close or very heavy. Finley River and Banjo are two different foundation lines - they cross well together ...

Re: walk hunting
Dan, seems like we're all caught up in the fast lane whether we like it or not. I still do some walk hunting, have too to get the job done. Do quite a lot off the rig and keep a few baits for bear. I hate running young dogs off the bait - makes them crazzzzy and harder to handle. I'll go out of my ...

Re: Bigfoot
There ya go! A geneticly proven line naturaly broke off BiGfFoot - I hope you are planning to hunt cat and coon and not keeping the pursuit for sasquatch going! Can't wait - 10 more days till I get to go look for that big track in the snow. Better not take out the snow shoes, they might get after ...

Re: trash running and genetics?
Pete, were not so much different - I should have looked at where you hail from . The kind of country I hunt is probly 180 deg opposite. It would be a tough hunt getting a coon in 80% of the areas I hunt. I see your point if you have more coon than bear. The country I hunt is dry with alot of open ...

Re: trash running and genetics?
Pete, you have me a little confused here - and thats not to hard to do. Are you telling me if you strike or tree a coon during bear season you come down on them like its trash? I don't know to much but when I'm hunt'n I expect my hounds to strike, trail, and tree any of the 4 animals I hunt. It's up ...

Re: trash running and genetics?
Ok , Here's some more food for thought . In my short little hunting career I've seen and watched a pile of good game catch'n coon and cat dogs , put on a fresh bear track alone or with other hounds and you would have thought they were the most naturally ( or instinctivly ) bear broke hounds you ever ...

Re: trash running and genetics?
This post is just to one sided - so I'll be the odd man out . Some 25 years ago or so I talked with some o'l boys back east about hounds and I was learning all I could and gathering information on breeding and such. I'd been in the hounds about 4 or 5 years and with all the credit going to my hunt'n ...

Re: Tail Docking
-x-, I used to run yote's and had one of my running dogs get caught by a pair and a yearling at a den site. He held his own for a while but in a matter of a few min. they worked him over pretty good. They tried to casterate this hound, his testicals were hanging out of the sack, and his tail was bit ...
