Re: Lion Killing Ranchers!!!!

Evidently you have never lost any livestock to predators. These people have a right to try and make a living too. A person should spend their time hunting harder in a new area rather than try to get someone regulated out of business. My experience with ranchers or allotment owners whatever you choos...

Re: Custom mule saddle questions

The saddle maker in Parowan is Bob Ray. Bob and his wife Carolyn worked several years for Charlie Leeder before Bob started building saddles.

Re: Custom mule saddle questions

I live just up the road from you in southern Utah. I ride mules and have two saddles made by D.R. Schrader. He is out of Darby Montana. I really like the 3-way in skirt flat plate rigging that he put in my mule saddles. I can ride all day even when both myself and mule are out of shape and not sore ...

Your thinking of the Utah sale. The Nevada sale was this weekend.

Re: Jacks

Should you choose the ai shipped semen route you could not go wrong using a jack known as Jimmy Joe. I have a john mule out of him and TWHM that is everything I ever wanted in a mule. By the way my mule's name is Paco. You could purchase JJ's semen from rafter j mules.

Re: Handling furs

I used to like to visit the Masseys in Mesa Arizona. Jim Massey was a fur buyer who made fur buying runs up into Utah and Nevada. He may have visited other states also. At their Mesa operation they had large cold storage facilities that they held their furs in. Before putting them into cold storage ...

Re: how to make a wolf set

Simply place a trap so that when the wolf's nose is smelling the attractant his right foot is placed on the pan of the trap. Wolves are big strong animals and you need enoug trap for the job. Next would be at least 8 or 9 feet of good strong chain and a good heavy grapple or drag. Trap placement sho...

Re: Securing your traps

A trapper has to be able to read conditions and adapt or improvise. I have more traps that are rigged with grapples or drags than stakes. I prefer drags but they are heavy if walking very far from the vehicle. Advantages of drags are they allow the catch to escape to heavy cover and be better hidden...

Re: coyote/bobcat

Certainly there are few exceptions. I have caught cats in flat sets made for coyote but most cat sets are far to fenced in for any coyote past the pup stage to investigate. If you want to catch coyotes it is better to slip in a flat set in an open area from your cat set.

Re: Mule question

When I first started in mules everyone said get a mollie. 23 years later all we have are johns. The 3 johns we have now won't quit. They each have their own personality and they all love to work. The more work they get the happier they are. There is no having to break them again if you have laid off...

Re: Bob Ray saddle

I do have another comment about the picture of the saddle in the ad. I noticed that it doesn't have a rear jockey. It is also hard to tell how the saddle is rigged from the picture. My favorite mules are out of TWH mares and have a lot of movement in the front elbow. I have found that for me the thr...

Re: Bob Ray saddle

Bobby Ray is not only a craftsman but an artist as well. If you are talking about the saddle on KSL that is for sale I would buy it myself if I had the money. Bob and his wife used to work for Charlie Leeder and can talk lion hunting as well. I had him build a packsaddle and the workmanship was exce...

Re: Coyote Trapping

There are a lot of resources for information. I have found the videos on youtube put out by the Kentucky dept of wildlife to be quite informative. It has been 35 years since I trapped my first coyote and I have caught over 800 since that first one. I don't check this forum everyday but you are welco...
