Re: 300lb boar and a 3000 dollar vet bill

Re: Running Catch Dogs

The terrain that is being hunted is a huge factor. RCDs don't work in these briar thickets in East Texas. A bad hog in the wrong spot will leave you with a handful of collars to bring back to the truck.

Re: Hunting in the course of the year

East Texas
My crew is centered around hunting hogs with dogs, but we love to hunt anything.
September: usually hunt doves two or three times
October: bow season for whitetail deer opens (we don't run dogs during any open deer season), squirrel season, we usually squirrel hunt four or five times ...

Re: Stopping a running hog!!!!

Nearly every hog that we strike now, is a runner to some extent. I believe this is happening due to us killing the slow hogs that would stand and fight over the years, and due to so called "runner stoppers" and running catch dogs. Fifteen years ago the dogs trailed to the hogs and bayed up the whole ...

Re: American hoggers

I liked the show a lot better than the others, but I still think it is hard to show good dog work in a 30 minute program. The Dad on the show was funny as hell, and had some great sayings that I haven' t heard in a while.

Re: Cur dog V.S. Bulldog

When someone says "finding it's own hogs", I'm thinking if I kick him out in fresh sign, he should go run a hog about 90% of the time.

Halfbreed, I ain't doubting that you got some dogs that are showing promise at that age, but I think Cajun is just trying to help this young man wade through all ...

Bear hunting with Joe Troyer

I just wanted to thank Joe for having me come up and hunt with him for three days. Joe has the nicest pack of hounds that I have had the pleasure to hunt with so far in my hunting career. We treed two bear in three days, and he makes it look easy.

Aside from the hunt, the hospitality was second to ...

Re: Hogs Gone Wild (Dogs on the show)

I think the show is good for dog hunters. What we don't know, is what is being edited out of the show. They put the hogs in a bad light, and justly so. They are costing farmers and land owners millions, if not billions of dollars in crop and pasture damages.

With all that being said, I haven't seen ...

Re: getting hogs to STOP

Bigboarstopper is spot on. We get outrun way more in hot weather. In the winter thru spring months we can usually count on one hand the times we get outrun. In hot weather I would say we get smoked about 40% of the time.

If I was strictly wanting to catch hogs, I would carry my best "find" dog ...

Re: check out this video: TN hates hound hunters

Just wait about two years and they will be begging you boys to hunt them. A good sow will raise about ten pigs a year. If a hog ever gets in a trap and happens to escape he will never go back in one. I know it is BS right now, but the government will help your hog population by doing this. If the ...

Re: coarse coat

I have one that was given to me that has a coarse coat, big blocky head, and a flag tail. Sire was slick coat and black brindle, Dam was maltese with a slick coat. I don't have papers for him, but he is suppose to be purebred. He is making a pretty nice dog. More nose than any of my other dogs, but ...
