Re: Let’s talk.
Well we caught 5 bears , the last being the biggest I’ve ever treed! Had a great trip with friends I don’t get to see often enough!! Dogs preformed better than I anticipated and so did the weather for the most part. It was my new hunting trucks first trip and it did well and got some scratches to break it in
slept under the starts every night and ate like a king! Just got home about 2 hours ago and ready to go back already! Not looking forward to the messes I’ll go back to at work tomorrow at all…but that’s the way it goes

Sure glad you had such a good trip. Sounds like a real good time. It’s even better when your dogs do good.

Re: Let’s talk.
Today was opening day of grouse season so I took the gsp out to see if we could find a few. He’s only been pheasant hunted so far and I wasn’t sure how it would go. He’s a little wild from not having anything done with him since the end of last season but he did find 2 grouse but they both flushed way out of range. He’s young and needs to slow down a bit but I really don’t care just have a blast watching him work. He had a great rock solid point on a chip munk
icing on the cake on the way out walking an old forgotten four wheeler trail I looked down and found my first arrow head!! It was a very small obsidian one I believe would have been used for shooting grouse!!

Re: Let’s talk.
Lol I bet he was wound up. Those type dogs have a lot of energy when they are fresh especially. I tried a Vizsla once as a hog dog. He hunted pretty good and he found hogs. The problem was he would bark once and then nothing for a while then a bark and nothing for a while again. When you got there he would be pointing more or less. I didn’t keep him. I just couldn’t hear well enough to hear him point. If I heard him bark I would track him and see where was and go that way but you had to be careful or you would walk up on him before you realized he was there and that would break the bay. Other dogs rarely honored him if they were spread out because he didn’t bark enough for them to know he was baying. I’ve heard of this several times with pointer type breeds.

His energy level and stamina are amazing, as well as his feet! He’s tough and keeps himself in amazing condition running out property and the adjacent hay fields chasing small birds !

Re: Let’s talk.
I went to New Mexico for 14 days chasing bears and had a blast, came home 2 days early because the dogs were completely shot! Caught lots of big bears and had a great time with friends I don’t see nearly enough! Been pheasant hunting the gsp a bit since I got home and having a little success. Shot a buck antelope yesterday and big game season starts tomorrow (can’t wait for it to be over). We have gotten a few good snow storms up high and the night I got home from the bear trip there was an inch in my yard. Cat season is getting closer and I can’t wait to see my newest pups try their hand at catching lions and bobcats. Any of you ladies or gentlemen been having any luck?

Re: Let’s talk.
You’ve been a busy rascal. I haven’t done as much hunting as you. Bow season is in here so it really affected our hunting. We have been a few times though. Been catching a few hogs each trip, a couple of them were pretty decent boars. My young dogs have been doing retry good. Both of my young gyps were in so they missed some woods time. My favorite one didn’t act like she missed a beat. The other one acts like her hormones are a little off still. I can tell she acts a little different than she did before her heat cycle. The young male I’ve been hunting is getting better. He was with a friend and she just couldn’t get what she needed out of him. It’s just my opinion but there were a couple of issues. He seems to be turning the corner and making progress. He been hunting and casting a lot better every trip and baying a lot better. Him and the little gyp I like the most are littermates. I have a litter of pups that a real pretty in my opinion, 4 males and 2 females. They seem really smart, good natured, and well built so far. They are the second litter out of my Outlaw dog. Their mother is his niece and first cousin. Hoping they work out.

Re: Let’s talk.
Well winter decided to show up today, got a little bit of snow that won’t last most places, and was below zero for the first time. Cat season starts Monday and conditions are less than great, but I did find where a lion killed a deer in the road today. She had 2 40-50 pound kittens in tow and they cleaned up the yearling mule deer in one sitting. I’ll just be happy at dark tomorrow when the pumpkin patch flees the hills

Re: Let’s talk.
It’s still summer here in Texas lol. I was frying turkeys for thanksgiving and was thinking to myself about how it’s nearly December and our trees are still covered in leaves. They are starting to drop but we still have a lot of shade. Temps are still getting to 90+ too. We’ve had a couple of cool fronts that were nice but nothing drastic.

Been killing some roosters here and there, catching a cat or 2. But the snow is sparse.

Re: Let’s talk.
Hard to believe it’s the 15th of December and I can see dirt at the top of the mountains across from the house, I’ve caught 1 lion and 1 bobcat since the season started. Did some trailing yesterday that ended on a cliff ledge, dogs just couldn’t make it go in the rocks. When I got back to the truck it was 61 degrees. Definitely enjoying hunting the dirt but be nice to get some snow to start getting these puppies firing.
Re: Let’s talk.
Not sure if this is where I should ask this but I’m going to Idaho coming up and looking for info how to hunt with wolves running around so much it seems like pretty much the whole northern end of the state has wolves and I would like to come home with all my dogs. I understand I probably need to stay on top of the dogs but that’s not always going to work out anyways thanks for anyone who has some advice
Re: Let’s talk.
There is wolves, I usually look for sign and talk with the locals that I run into. They do seem to move some. One week they will be in a certain next week they move on to the next. So if you can find them you can usually stay away from them.
