Telemetry comparison

Postby Kyleodus » Fri Sep 05, 2014 2:36 pm

So I'm looking for a few new telemetry collars I currently use wildlife materials for all my collars but have been looking around and wondering what all of you think. I have heard marshall have a lot of range but are a little harder to pin point once they get closer. Was looking at rats and west coast but fill me in on your experience with each brand thanks.

I'd upgrade to Garmin once you do you'll never go back and you'll wonder why you did go earlier

I had 4 West coast, In the first year and a half 2 of them went bad. I have never owned a rats and never will from what I have heard about them from guys that ran them. When its all said and done Johnsons are hard to beat.

Not sayin that switching to garmin is wrong bcuz the garmins are great. But we still run both on dogs here bcuz them garmins lose connection so much and the beep beeps have longer range and battery life. Have had dogs with a garmin and no beep beep and the collars go dead and just like that, dogs gone. Jmo

I highly recommend Johnson telemetry products . I still have my RB-10(receiver) i bought in1986,works great. The collars also last for several years. The only thing i would change would be to make the antennas(on collars) easier to replace.

Klein Telemetry are very good collars, and Harvey is great to work with.

I run wildlife and Johnson's both are very good. But you can do some of the work your self with the wildlife callers like new anntenas and battery's. I bought a couple of wildlife callers from a good freaind and he runs every day double a battery's in them.

I have had Johnson, wildlife,n Marshall. Have tracked buddies rats, magnum, n quick track. N although johnso n wildlife r great collars I'll take my marshalls any day . small ,metal case , they take AA batteries u can get anywhere, n they have a low battery light that blinks red when getting low .

I have an Alpha. I can say that since I have had it and finally had a TT-10 for every dog I own I have not used my Telemetry BOX... However I will never turn a hound lose without a Telemetry Collar on them.

I run Johnson's Telemetry Collars with the 16,000 hour batter in them.

My dad used Johnson's for a really long time, along with Wildlife, West Coat, Tracker, and Kleins. He went to straight Johnsons as they were lighter on the dogs then the wildlife ones he had, They have changed them a lot since then, I mean these were some of the first Wildlife collars ever made lol.

I have never tried Marshalls, never will. From what everyone tells me they are the best but 1. They are like $170 brand new, 2. limited to like 3 different collars, and 3. IMHO we have improved technology enough to make stuff either rechargeable or last long enough to not worry about it so I have no desire to have 100 AA batteries floating around to change batteries in 7 collars every other day. The lights on the Telemetry collars make no difference for me because the ones on the Alpha are as amazing as they get.

Johnson's is the company I pick hands down for collars, plenty of colors to chose from for straps, cheap to send them in to get new batteries and straps and antennas, and they are $125 brand new with tree switch. I use Kleins Telemetry magnets in them because they are the strongest magnets you can buy, no sharp edges for when you put the pile of them in your pocket, and I have yet to own one that loses it's strength.
