Not to start a "fight" if thats what you guys view of past posts of mine, but a few things on all these posts continue to piss me off. I do not beleive in this plan yet I understand why it came to be although none of you think so. I have tried to help Oregon sportsmen in the past by giving helpful information here so time isn't wasted in eronous battles. The fix in this is a reinstatment by vote of sport hunting with hounds, which as elluded to earlier will take time money and a lot of luck if it can ever happen.
MEASURE 18 WAS A VOTER PASSED INITIATIVE. Whether you think the govenor pushed it or whatever you beleive, the uninformed majority of Oregon's non-hunting public passed it. PERIOD... The people of Oregon are the ones who took these privalleges away. Whatever has happened since then I am not going to debate, as what I have said has fallen of deaf ears.
Secondly, I am a little confused so I will give a little information for all on this board. In Oregon STILL TODAY, a landowner or agent of a landowner is allowed to pursue and kill lions or bears causing damage to livestock without contacting ODFW before the fact. All kills must be reported after. Landowners and ajents are allowed to kill lions and bears for human safety concerns as well but may not use hounds without approval for these type of pursuits. ODFW typically has an employee or WS agent handle human safety calls. A huge chunk of the lions killed in Oregon are killed under these livestock losses. Many claims are BS, some are real. Houndsmen killing lions/bears for sport and claiming them as damage cats are not helping themselves or there image.
Thirdly, If it is too confusing for dogs to know when they are working for the state and when they are just sport hunting as eluded to in an above post and people are going to harp on this, then I would reccomend not using your Oregon dogs to run bears as many of you have shown pictures in the past. I am sure all those bear stories and pictures from oregon posters were from out of state though, right? When a person commits themselves to handling damage they are committing themselves and their animals to these pursuits. If you don't want your dogs running bear, dont run them in oregon or another sate. If you want your dogs to run bears then do it but don't complain about it. As for lion, every decent bobcat dog is going to catch lions. I would recommend not intentionally turning out on them in the snow as many do.
In the past I have tried to be very nice here as I view the loss of these privaleges a huge deal. A friend compared it to growing up in a very religious house hold and going to church every day, then one day someone passed a rule that said you couldn't go to church anymore. Dogs are a huge part of our lives and have steered many of our lives, this is an important issue and I have tried to help here this however is the last post for me on this topic as I am tired of the same flawed comments. If any of you chose to involve yourself in this battle I would reccomend to get all the factual knowledge you can, as many on here have. Unfortunately many still just want to throw temper tantrums.
