Plottpapaw,
Not calling you out, but where have you recieved the info from on the Marshall Range? My sources with Marshall sure have never made any such Claim. It will be darn nice if they do.
The buisness about the three AA batteries is a concern also. That will get expensive over time. The one Marshall person I spoke with said that using the rechargeable ones will help...but it looks to me like you will need two sets of batteries for each collar...at least we will as hard as we Hunt.
We are pulling for Marshall and Garmin as well....Competition can only help all of us have a better tool to use!

If Garmin fixes the loss of range problem and comes out with a upgraded system then I dont think Marshall will have a chance.
or if Marshall beats Garmin to the punch I dont think garmin will have a chance.
I will by a Marshall as soon as they come out and what ever unit gives me what i need I will never look back. I just want to use a system that works. I dont want to think about what might damage my system. My quick track never gave me trouble unless i abused it (like falling off the truck and running over it).
I am packing up 3 collars to go back to Garmin today for different reasons and I am sending one of my hand held 220's back because it wont get gps signal.
My other garmin (recently sent back for loss of range) is still getting 2 miles with the long range antenna and if it will keep that up I will be happy.
the rep i spoke with said the new Marshall will have 3 AA bateries but should run for a week before needing replacing. I agree with dads dog boy 2 sets of rechargable batteries will be needed. I hope the hand held part will have battery life on the display so we know when it is getting time to change the batteries or it could cause a problem. I also hope for a larger screen or a way to hook up an external larger screen and a external power source.
If a Marshall rep is reading please give us some details and a actual release date.

that come from a individual who test for marshall. prime condition clear day flat land. just to rebut the comment. i will never repeat a comment unless it comes from a source that i have no doubt in their info. honestly i aint pulling for garmin. i detest them they are unreliable and i can keep up with my dogs better with my quick tack than a garmin with all the extras. i am hopin marshall blows them out of the water. i have already spoken for one as soon as they come out.

Re: new marshall GPS tracking
I don`t care about the cost of batteries.........in the whole scope of costs incured with hounds, it matters not.
Give me RANGE, RELIABILITY, and a LONG operating time on one charge or set of batteries to allow time to recover lost dogs, and I`m happy.
I`d like to see Garmin come out with a collar that had a battery back-up option, to allow one to install an extra battery ( yes, more weight ) enabling the collar to last an extra 24 hrs at least.

I talked to the Marshall hound rep today and he said they plan to have their unit ready in time for Autumn Oaks. The release has been postponed due to some changes being made to the prototype. It will be a combination gps/telemetry unit. The gps will be like an I pod that fits in your shirt pocket. It will be touch screen. When it is turned on there is no menu to scroll through. It will go straight to the tracking screen and each time a collar is turned on it will come up on the screen. There will be satellite imagery not topo. The signal will be real life time on screen not every so many seconds. The collar will be a combination collar gps/telementry. It will be slightly wider that their current Marshall collar and will hold 3 batteries not 2. A one dog unit he said will be under $1,000. The telementry range will be 3 times stronger than the current marshall unit. The gps range will be much increased as well over the garmin.
I love the idea..Hope it works out...I'll be at Autumn Oaks and I'll be writing a check for a system

Are you kidding me?
If you live in BC you know fully it will be a p.o.s if it relys on cell service. No manufacturer in their right mind would rely on cell service and I have NO concerns that marshall might be the first to try it.
I know a "guinea pig" who will recieve one shortly, looking forward to it undergoing the test by a guy who will put it through what most could only hope to do.
With that opinion I will decide to purchase or not as I did with the Garmin.
