I am from a different area than everyone that has replyed to this post. Looks like your from the southwest also. If I have learned anything from this forum, try to listen to the guys in your area.

In my area a good bobcat dog will easily catch lions. One of the big reasons I hunt lions is because it helps get the dogs cold trailing and treeing better. Bobcat races are way more fun though. If a dog is any good at coldtrailing bobcats, it will do an excellent job moving an old lion track.

Last year I had a bobcat cross the road 11 times on the same stretch of road. Dogs only a few feet behind it. Twisting and turning. Jumped and burning on the thing for over an hour. Thats Fun!

Our average cougar race is four hours +or- of cold trailing followed by a two minute jump. It is still fun.

What I'm getting at is if you get to catching bobcat all the time. You may not have as much fun running lions.
