From 1990 through 2006 there were 9 nonfatal accidents and 1 fatal accident during PA's bear seasons. That's about .75 accidents per bear season or so. Me thinks the young marine needs to find new hunting partners. Were dressed like big walking pumpkins for bear season. PA did just eliminate their orange requirement when moving during spring gobbler season. Great now I won't see the knuckleheads who try to sneak in on a calling session to get a shot and I'm not even a good caller. Not that they wear thier orange anyway when sneaking in on me. Folks gotta be more careful. Paul Conway.

i was thinking like "oh great, a marine thinks its dangerous to hunt bear in PA. i feel safe now!" we drive deer too! there are 3 times as many people in the woods then. sure you have acidents every yr but i bet its no more here than other states.

there is a club in NC that man drives deer, just not high on my list of smart ways of doing things but then sport & smart are not generally the same thing.

I've been involved in clubs that drive for both deer and bear here in PA and never, NEVER, felt unsafe and I try to be as smart and safe as possible. for instance if there is one car near where I'm going in to turkey hunt on public land I find somewhere else. Also get a late start the day of the opener so I don't have to worry about who's comin in behind me. If drivin deer and bear ain't your cup of tea that's fine, but In some places it's as much of an american tradition as the running of hounds. Food for thought. Paul Conway.
