In response to the above post, I agree. I know that the dog in question had limited training outside of lion season. Our hound that we got from the same guy was not exposed to anything until we got him at 6 months. There was a whole list of socialzation issuses as well as the medical that lead to having to put him down.
We give our young dogs till a year and a half. Now mind your the Cameron was the first one we had issues with. As far as hunting he was behind the curve from the other hounds but showing improvment. I feel it was from lack of early anything.
I have bought several blueticks from Del. The last one about three years ago.
I have found them to start early and are treeing machines. They are also easy to deer break and self training.
The hounds run loose on my ranch and where treeing and staying treed at six months old.

TRACKER wrote:I dont doubt Del has some good dogs but I bought 1 once and that dog never run a track, was scared to ride in the truck, and slobbered constantly. I even starved that dog for three days when he was six months old then ran a bacon trail 20 ft long and left it on the ground. He had eaten bacon many times before. 2 hrs later he still hadn't found it & my back yard isnt that big. I tried every trick I new of but at a year and a half old I got rid of him. He was the only dog I ever had that didnt turn out & Ive owned lots of dogs. He was also very timid.
You say he couldn`t trail his own track away from a shade-tee / well I had a redbone like that once. I got him out of the JoePuckett line and this 20 month old pup was pen raise not hunted by Mike Pipkens/ they sold him too me for puppy price .This dogs name became Pepper`s Burgandy Hank an he too was rediculiouse cause too stood on his head on a coon track with 2 other no/3 other redbones owned by Ronnie Rice out of the Little Boe line and they humped on out off the treeline accrost the rice fields an was out of hearing while HANK went 15-20 ft trieing too track then back tracken too were he struck barked from. Ronnie said jack I`m going up ahead with the dogs, I said go ahead I want too stay here and see what all happenes with this ? The dog didn`t quiet and he didn`t go futher just back and forth. Ronnie come back and said Jack ya better get ridd of that one ! I put him in the truck dogbox and the next day I called Joe Pucket/ this 70+ hunter said oh Jack you got one of the good ones ! I listened and said well I`ve never run accrost this befor and Ive been traing dogs a long time but Joe said hang inthere he will trun out too be a great track dog in time. Ya know the dog did too and within 3 hunts he was strikeing by winding and goen-off in too the slue bottems and trailen and treeing up solo and haven the meat ! By 2 yrs old he was as good a coon dog in central ca that Id hunted against and he won cast after cast. so ya may or may not have the real deal/ some hounds start off amazeingly wrong but get it together quickly enoughf an make ya proud of em !
ps your never too experienced too learn a new thing an thouse who can and do are the real winners

I've been wanting one but from reading these posts it probably steared me the other way. If any of my dogs acte dlike those they would eat a bullit right away.
yeah but you got to think how many cameron dogs are out there and you have read a hand full of post that talk bad about them. if some one popped a question about any kind of breed or line of breed there will always be someone that doesnt like it. try one you might like them shoot you never know till you try one. i'm not promoting cameron dogs or trying to say they are great but you might like them who knows.
High I would like to thank all that have responded to this posting from the start I was not sure I should bring the subject up but now from a bunch of the feedback on the subject I think that there are great Cmeron dogs out there but I think that other breeders are producing better ones than Del himself and yes I think I did maybe get a dud but for 800.00 bucks maybe should have been offered a replacement for the dog no I do not expect something for nothing I drove all the way to Stevensvill and picked this dog up ran him with two of my old dogs and he just never caught on thanks again this is a great forum and I appreciate the response. This Jim hartell I believe his name is sounds like he produces good natural born Camerons but am kinda scared to give another a try but maybe someday got a good pack again now catching lots of cats.

Amen! Haha no but there are duds in every breed, Camerons are well known and sought after, of course there are gonna be ones that dont turn out, just never know
I got some food for thought, so to speak. I got a five year old english bluetick once from a guy here in my area, the dog was heavy hard time, but not that has anything to do with my story, that dog was owned by three different people here in upstate ny prior to my self first was the breeder who kept him till he was six months old, this breeder is a competition hunter and he campaighns one or two dogs at a time and when hes hunting his older hounds he takes the pups out and lets them run, this is not how you train a hound. The second guy who owned him is a older guy a hunter not so much a breeder he hunts what ever is for sale during the summer and what works already he keeps and what doesnt he sells, from there this dog went to a really old gentleman who probally was under the impression the dog was broke or well trained, this guy was up there in the years and couldnt get around well so the dog didnt get much hunting time or any proper training for about three years, I took the dog because he was going to put him down and he was giving him away so I figured I would atleast give the dog a shot. That dog was excuse my language f...... stupid the first time I took him to the woods an absolute night mare, but he wanted to hunt, I have never seen more determination or desire to please in all my life, so I started from scratch with him and with in two weeks he was striking tracking in the right direction and the most solid tree dog I have ever seen. I believe even the naturals need training and guidence and need to be broke from trash no dog will 100% train himself or herself, I think with the proper guidence and training in the begining this dog would have been what we considered a natural, this hound that I brought home that couldnt back track him self to the truck 100 meters into the woods or figure out wich way game went, two months down the road stayed treed for three days under a bob till I found him and get to him on an island in a huge swamp in october in northern ny. He was finally properly trained and had a man put time and effort into him, and he was not leaving that tree untill that cat came down and he finished it and I put him on a leash and took him home, I had to have dec get me in there on a air boat to get him. for a dog to keep a bobcat up for three days and nights means that hound was doing his job and he didnt sleep. some points that I want to make is hounds need to be properly trained in order to perform how you want them too, some are slow in maturing but once they are trained then you can judge there proper worth but you cant say that because a dog isnt tracking and treeing that it isnt a natural or wont turn out to be one of the better hunting dogs you have owned I think that because of this we have excluded alot of great hounds in the bluetick breed in our breeding program, some dogs do not start at an early age but this should not be a factor for acessing a dogs worth, and the best dogs arent always the ones that start at 6-8 months. We also have a tendecy as we get older and have more time with hunting that we lose our drive and motivation and some of our pups suffer from this because now that pup is a hinder in you hunting season and hes not getting the time he or she needs, I know some of you out there will realize what I am saying, I know I have been guilty of this A time or two. just some food for thought. sounds like a lot of hype
Only a "houndsman" would pop off that comment. LOL. Every other kind of working dog in the world has pups all over who sell for $1000+ and guess what?! they dont ALL turn out..Imagine that.
