Re: wont lock in and tree
Last season my buddy had this dog he was training on varmant. Before it would tree, it would do a few wide laps around the tree. What he was doing was checking to see if the animal had gone up the tree part way and jumped out, gone to runnin again. This helped him catch 35 fox with help from his buddy Showtime. A hard tree dog would be more likely to hit the tree and stayed treed, leading to a false tree. I just wonder if this is what your dog was doing, checking for a hotter track than the tree to run.

I don't know anything about tree dogs. But if the dog doesn't work out, it sounds like it would make a great coyote or fox hound.

Re: wont lock in and tree
well i cought a nice tom two days ago and ran three good dogand her litter mate brother they did very good, treed the cat in about four hours, i walked her in to the tree and turned her loose after she was putting her feet on the tree and barking she tookoff down the draw for no reason, i did some tunning on her with the trytronics and she came bace and tree like a champ.... a few times she ran little 20 yard circles to locate tree witch is fine i let her do it then she would come back and tree. the client i had hit the cat pritty good with a bow and the cat bailed out. i let her and her brother go and in 60 yrds he was back up a tree they seen him go up and the both had there feet on the tree doing a good job. the client put one more arrow in the cat and it fell out and then ran i turned them loose again and they put him up another tree very quick and then about the time they locked in and started treeing good and before i could get them tied back the cat fell out and then ran, the two dogs grabed the cat and the fight was on every time the cat would try bighting the dogs i would kick him in the head, the cat was trying to bite my male dog on the back of the head and the collars where getting in his way so he moved down and bit him in the top of the shoulders about that time he ran out of steam and died. both dogs did very well and never backed off the big tom hopfully this helps the female out but it didnt do my male any favers. he is very banged up but the cat didnt get his lungs so i think he will be fine. the cat weight 160 # and will make P&Y
