Lion hunter , yes it is the hound but I promise you there are some lines that have higher averages than others. They all can produce the goods just as well as the culls . But look at averages and there is a definate difference . These things do not come by accident a "cold nose " is not natural in mother nature it is something that has to be bred for and will be lost if not purposefully bred for and evaulated for.

A man is not very smart that can,t find his wife 2 jobs.
And any wife should be able to support her man and a pack of hounds.

What game
Remember that a 10 hr old , bear or lion track
is a lot different than a 10 hr old bobcat track.
Most dogs that can run an old bear track won,t even know that a
bobcat was there hrs after the bear left.
I think the real test of cold nose is on bobcats on dry ground.
A dog that can cold trail a bobcat for a while then get him jumped is a true cold nosed dog.
just my 2 cents worth.

plotts
Yep today in time its poccohannuse plott from w.va. and back in the day it was the Smithdeal line of Plott and Argo 1 & 11 line of bear howllow plotts .Not too say other lines couldn`t produce a extra cold noised plott dog, just saying them mentioned was in my view as close as ya get too the real deal nuff said plott hound . Dale screwed it up makeing coon dogs for the point hunts out of old Drum and Tom Tom and an extra cold nose wasent needed for point hunts, I believe he was honest cause he wrote a long artical on Smithdeal Negger and what contrabution the Smithdeal line was too the beginnings of UKC regestry of plott hounds. I believe it was pretty much accepted in the Von Plott falmily that Smithdeal was the foundation stock/ Bear howllow Argo line was out crossed and brought big houndy plott line back later on.Gamegetter wrote:If you want a Plott with a super nose I wouldn't look pass the Pocahontas line for a second. I've got two males that are Pocahontas and they strike a bear off the rig really well. Ones a lil' over 3 years old and the other is 2.5. Great noses. Can't ask for much better......Perkey

Cascade in my opinion but there are a lot I have not hunted with.
There are not a lot of them around anymore. I lost a good one this weekend.
