Have allways used nail clippers, but just learned a new method from the vet.Foreceps and push down exposes whole nail, pull out with pliers--much cleaner 2-5 days old.

it is not a matter of just cutting them of you have to make sure that you get the small joint that the dew claw is attached to. if not they will grow back.

Do them when they are 2 days old. Older dogs have to have them surgically removed. We do them all day long at my work (Vet) but it's hard for me to do it myself as well. I don't do fronts, like I said, but my line throws rear dewclaws, and those go. Using a pair of foreceps and clamping them down in the crease behind that little joint and then scraping the toe off is easy. I did have an older dogs rear dewclaws removed once, I got a discount at my work, and she was in heat at the time, so it worked out good. But if you can help it, just do it as a puppy. I suggest if you don't know how, just take them to the Vet, that way they don't grow back.
