Cutting From The Team
Re: Cutting From The Team
Well said cobalt Heart is we're its at if they don't have it no use haven them around
Re: Cutting From The Team
balance of natural ability is number 1 for me ,because alot of dogs learn to do things from experiences after a time .like treeing etc. i want it bred in .my least concern would be papers.
Re: Cutting From The Team
Im gonna have to agree with Cobalt... Heart... My number 1 is a dog wanting to catch what its after not track it or tree it but catch it no matter what. Brains yes so every outting the dog is on its learning. Least concern Breed of the dog. I want my pack to hunt every race like its there last...

Re: Cutting From The Team
Seems like "brains" is the number one valued trait.
Someone explain it to me please.....what is "brains" ?
Almost comes off as a catch phrase used to explain what we can't explain when it comes to hound work.

"Brains" the ability to use the tools you have to outsmart prey. Many times these thinker hounds outperform hounds with greater gifts depending on the situation. If you don't know what I'm talking about, its possible you've never seen a hound like this. They are rare.

Re: Cutting From The Team
That rare yet near everyone prefers them (brains) so they must all be familiar with dogs like that. Throw in the fact that every tom, dick and harry's brainy dogs have cold noses........it's a wonder the cats ever get away
Re: Cutting From The Team
I'll take patience with a splash of confidence. If a dogs confidenent with its ability and its handler and has the patience to work difficult tracks, the patience to handle well and wait to do what it's told, has the patience to stay bayed, and has the patience not to be first in the race when packed up that would be my number one trait. Problem is patience is a two way street and a handler needs patience as well. That being said I have a kennel full high energy extremely excited dogs that love to test my patience
