one dog?
Re: one dog?
i agree dogs don't think like we do they all want to hunt . but we have love for our four legged friends and want them to live too an ripe old age, if your dog likes to run alone , just try to keep up and smack that kitty before it smacks your dode ..

Re: one dog?
I've caught a bunch of lions with one hound. Sometimes it was half a day or better before I got to the tree. My old dog doesn't say a word until the cat is jumped. Guess my dog and the lions here didn't read the rule book lol. I won't keep a dog that won't tree a lion by itself and stay treed as long as it takes me to get there. I like cheerleaders as much as the next guy just not when it comes to hounds. Turn her loose and tree some lions.
Montana Red Kennels - redbones that catch game and hold it until you get there.

Re: one dog?
I have one dog that treed a lion by itself, we jumped it off a kill in deep snow and it treed within 200 yards then jumped out and went up several other trees.
Even a coon can injure your dog, I think a hot track would be best since my dog wastes a lot of time on cold trails but I just let mine go since you never know how close you are to a kill site with a hot track.

One dog will catch you game if he or she can't you better be lookin for a new dog, yes there is times where things go wrong but that's hunting. Would sure rather have one good dog than a packof multi talents. Can't make a dog if you don't turn it loose. Andy
The home of TOPPER AGAIN bred biggame hounds.
Re: one dog?
I see no need in a dog that can't catch a lion solo. If i have a hot track circled with no wolf sign around why wouldnt i let one young dog have it? Thats all it takes to catch a lion. Once they have proven that they have the ability, it is back to a minimum of two and I prefer three or even four dogs in the wolf infested hills my dogs run in. I don't know if my "pack" is a deterrent to the bastards, but I think a lone dog is a more appealing target than three dogs that live as a pack and aren't scared of anything when together. I just hope they are never shown what the top dogs in the hills really are.
