master cat hunter
Re: master cat hunter
Most people new Jimmy as a bear hunter. But as soon as cat season rolled around he would switch em over and buy the end of season he would have a few cards filled up. I remember one weekend we entered the state cat hunt they used to have here and hunted hard day and night caught two at night and two in the morning total of four I think one was a 28 pound tom and a few of these cats ran. When I went with him I was able to see what dogs were about and what was expected in a hound

I would nominate Robbie Hurt (South Texas) and Joe Braman. While neither one of them is 65, both of them have already treed more bobcats than most of us will ever tree in several lifetimes.

Gary,
Why don't you and some friends try to reignite the South Texas Gathering. I know Mr. Dubose worked hard for lots of years keeping it going, but it just became too much for he and his Family.
That is where Robbie and Joe along with a Host of others ranging from Mr. Joe Rufus Lyne, through the likes of Pool Butler, to Marvin Englemiller (sp) deserve to be recognized.
If some one will take the lead I bet others will throw in to Help get it going again.....Dilley is a Great place to have it and the facilities are wonderful!

Will see what we can do. Unfortunately, the early March date was difficult for me as we are so busy trying to shoot TV. Hopefully next year will be a little easier.
Thanks, CJC and look forward to visiting with you,

Re: master cat hunter
As ted said earlier Curt Preston is one of the hardest hunting cat hunters in Oregon who consistently catches and keeps making great cat dogs. That being said Curt and some other good houndsmen here in Oregon wouldn't be the hunters they are without Curts uncle Dude Reed. Without ever meeting the guy or talking to him I have learned a lot of his wisdom through hunting with curt and some other guys in southern Oregon. I think its people like this who spend the time taking the next generation hunting and turning a few of them into life long houndsmen are the true people who need to be recognized.
Re: master cat hunter
Same with curt him self he has showed a handful of young hunters with hounds how to hunt hard day or night and turn em loose he is a cat hunter and trainer.
Re: master cat hunter
I agree curt has helped many people out. I am one of them and made a good friend while hunting with him. He is a master cat hunter and houndsman.
Re: master cat hunter
100% agree but Curt still has a ways to go before he turns 65 lol

Re: master cat hunter
I second the endorsement for Curt Preston....He is a master cat hunter at 47....
However, I think the rules are in place for a good reason, we need to recognize the cat hunters 65 and beyond!
We might not have the chance to honor them in person if the age is open or exceptions made...
Just something to think about!

Curt is just lucky. Sure, he gets lucky multiple times every single time he goes to the woods but its still luck.mike martell wrote:I second the endorsement for Curt Preston....He is a master cat hunter at 47....

Re: master cat hunter
It isn't luck. I don't care about the age limit. He's got my vote. I'd hate for somethin to happen to him before he gets the recognition he deserves.
