BM we were down in lower country on Sat. and Sun. and ran bears both days. Had a split race both days. Heat/Sun in my opinion is one of the disadvantages of running mostly black dogs. The heat/sun just does these dogs in in not much time. Monday we got the bear going right after 5:00 and had it treed by 6:30 so the heat didn't bother us that day.
We will see about this weekend. Congrats on your catch BM! Any pics? Boar or Sow?

Not worth a pile of crap. She is a cull unfortuanatly. All the other dogs did excellent. I have a little plott tick dog who is only 9 months old that tore it up. My bro in law saw the bear on the ground and said that little plott tick was circleing the bear while it was moving getting in it's face and putting it to him. She is also a striking, only problem is that she is stiking everything...cows, deer elk...
How did your pack do? How many dogs on the bear?

bear
the pack did ok we totalled out putting seven down through out the race. two caught up seen the bear and was hiding in the box when we got back. ran the new blood hound and he tore it up rite from the strike. never thought such a large animal could move like him.

Thats funny! Sounds like you have them going pretty good. Where did you get your Blood hound? I would like to see him!

blood hound
he came from jason at four season outfitters. they had been using him on bear and then they picked up a new strain of walkers and to put it simple i think he is hooked so he sold us hutch. have not had him too long but seems to be a pretty solid dog that takes a little more to keep in shape but once he got that way he has no problem keeping up. only time will tell. akc papered too i thought they had about showed the brains out of this magnificant breed. he actually belongs to chris blake here in ferron. we do all our hunting together except that weekend we went out. i am sure if he turns out like seems to be so far he will be putting him up for stud...

haven't got out yet plus it is hard to get out with only one dog ya know lol. My buddy just had hand surgery last friday in vegas so he is out of commission for now. He is the one I got my hound from.
Bad Moon let me know when you stud out that bloodhound. My buddy that I got my 50% bloodhound and 50% blue tick from may want to breed his papered female bloodhound to yours.
Thanks
Shane

Been waiting for my photographer to get me a disc. I have photos of the first bear ever caught with hounds on the Cache.

Nice Kevin D. I went to school up in Cache county. Pretty country. Did a little lion hunting with the hoards but no bears. I think it may have been closed when I was there???? Or maybe there was just no bears. Can't remember.
Congrats anyhow on the catch. A little closer to home.

A fellow Aggie BGH?? USU seems to be well represented on these hound boards. How long has it been since you were up here??
The Cache is kinda a donut hole in bear population. You have to go 100 miles north or south before you run into a huntable population of bear. The DWR estimates only 10-15 live on the Cache.....and this is an area about the size of the state of Vermont. So catching up to one of these bear has always been a long shot. It doesn't help that the high roads stay choked with snow well into June.
The summer pursuit season has been a godsend here locally.
good deal
sounds like an all day event. what happened to the dwr? could not handle a real mans sport. i am headed out with the trailer today going to spend a few days on the hill. trying out a new blue dog so we will see how things go...
weather forcast says lower heat so a few days of running should be no problem for the dogs..
