curs on bobcats

I guess I'll find out next year. I ran hounds for 20+ years. Got out for a few, but I'm going to give curs a try. I don't want to get a whole pack of hounds, just a couple of cur dogs that I can decoy coyotes, and turn loose on a cat track. I picked up a 2 year old Blue Lacy, and a 7 year old Kemmer that has Frye's Striker in her pedagree 5 times. I didn't get any cat tags this year, but I'll be ready next!!!!

Most kemmer's won't take that kind of running,there are strains within the breed that can handle long bear races.I have had many that would stay all day long--and some nites!!!!Just as there are better tree dogs in the walker breed there are better curs in the breed!Most of the Striker bred dogs are very good at trailing,many are to slow for bear and bobcat.Derril does not breed for that kind of dog,he wants a bawl mouth,open,cold trailing type of cur.The boys in the east mostly want a fast tree type and don't want one that sticks to a track for hours!!!!!I had then for over 20 years and have culled hard to get the dogs i have now.And all of my dogs have a lot of Derril's dogs in them,just I have bred to some fast ,silent long winded dogs along the way.

I want a big ole lion dog type female. I'm talkin a big ole hound gyp that weighs 60-70 pounds. I wanna breed her to one of my fast dogs to make me some coyote type curs.

I grey fox hunted for 10 years hard. Not in a pen. I sold out due to having kids. I find myself day dreaming about those days that we cat hunted. I was wondering if any one on here has had any luck crossing running walkers with small open mouth curs. It wouldn't take much persuasion to get me back in the game

I have done that a few times. I loved the dogs I got out of that kinda cross. Well only once to an actually running hound but they pups were fast for real.

I love it. I have rabbit dogs now but it doesn't get my blood pumping. The boys around here hunt quite a few dogs in a pack. I was trying to think outside the box and maybe get some smart tree savvy dogs that can still take some gut wrenching running. We have some terrible ground to run in. Where it's open timber there isn't any game.

Rex Bowers who bred the Dutchman Creek Leopards, made a couple crosses between Leopards and Julys. All the pups went to cat hunter, mostly up north but one or two went to Florida. I hear they did really well.
