I have an uncle who has been putting in for a long time for a big horn sheep hunt in Colorado. You never know though, your number might just get drawn.
I have a similar story to yours on getting permission to hunt on property. Older farmer was on the side of the road late one night with a load of corn I do believe. I pulled over to make sure he was okay cause he looked hunched over in the seat. He was just trying to make a phone call, but his phone didnt work and I let him use mine. He told me to come down to his place and I could hunt on his property whenever I wanted. Pretty good deal. You feel good helping somebody out and you luck and get something in return for it.

Do you know much about the Walton area? A guy that works for my dad lives in Owenton and I hope to be able to hunt there some.

Good luck with the retirement to Maine! Sounds like you will have a lot of fun up there.

Jamison : Quick interesting story: Do you know where a lot of the hogs on preserves come from??? Not trying to start any BS But while living in Fla there was a farmer on our road that had a kid who was live trapping nuisence hogs and selling them to several preserves . Price was dependent on size and coloration.Blacks were the cheapest, Reds , oranges ,multi colored and bluish grays were the most expensive.this kid actually put himself through college doing this . I understand there are still some guys doing this down there. Also until that time did not realize how cannibilistic wild hogs were. Amazing the similarities between Wild hogs and bears are. The mature boars of each species will kill the cubs or piglets. I have not seen it with bears but have personally seen it 4 or 5 times with wild hogs .

Another quick story Driving from Ky to Maine I stopped at a truck-stop in PA ,went in to resturant guy sits down next to me we start gabbing he tells me he is hauling wild hogs delivering to preserves in Pa and OH they were commercially raised in Ontario Canada.I told him I had a hard time beliving that . In fact I said I will bet you a steak dinner .Ok he says we walk outside look in his livestock trailer .I lost the bet should have kept my mouth shut!!!! I know they are extremely hardy to be able to stand winters in the north east.

Yes I did know that they preserves will import them into their properties. The guy we hunted with I do believe will catch them and bring them on to his property from time to time, but it is large enough that they do run wild.
But if you are running an operation like that, you would probably eventually hunt your property out and would have to replenish from time to time. Either way it still was a very fun trip and a good experience for the two guys that had never been hunting.

How far up into Kentucky do bears go now or have been spotted? I know they have some, just don't know where they have all made it to.
