Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp
I have been hunting dogs out of Mikes stock for about six years now. They have been hunted in three different states on bobcat gray fox lion and bear. Thay are the most versitile dogs I have ever owned. As far as trailing they trail differently than most coonhound breeds. These dogs cover more ground quicker and bark a little less on the average. JUST MY OPINION. How ever it is a well educated one for I hunt 7-9 months of the year as well as every weekend during the few months I work.

they are defiantly good blooded dogs. but are you going to buy a couple thousand dollar dog thats only eight months old, regardless of how much game its seen. he sells a hundred thousand dollars in dogs everyyear. how much can you know about a dog if you own a puppy mill. your best bet is to get a pup from somegood stock and hunt it yourself. im sure the dogs that are catching the bear aren't even being sold and if they are your paying top money.

I'm going to disagree with you on this one. What your paying $1500.00 for is an eight month old that has been started and is going to go the first time you turn it loose. The culling has been done. You may not get a great dog but you are going to get one that will at least make something. Consider that you pay $300.00 and up for a good blooded pup at eight weeks old by time it is eight months you are already going to have a chunk of money in it, especially if you figure your time and any cost to haul and train. And after all that it could very possibly be a cull and your starting over. And as far as a puppy mill, well I guess you could call it that but he doesn't sell any pups. By time you buy one its probably got two months of light training thats Mike has done and watched it develop so he actually knows quite a bit about it. I don't know the man nor do I have, or have ever had one of his dogs so, like the above, just an opinion.

Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp
i see some people here say they got some dogs from mike kemp. thats not the problem. the problem is some of you say you got dogs from him and you laid a drag and they fallowed up to the tree real good. and one said the pups they got barked good at a caged coon and are starting to tree alright.... if you buy a dog from him and your laying drags either your stupid or you got a f*&^ed up dog. same with the caged coon guy. mike doesn't sell pups, only started dogs. so what the heck are you doing showing it something in a cage.. so whos at fault?

Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp
(brush stomper) I dont know how many of Mikes dog you have hunted or hunted with but I must say $1500-$2000 for a started dogs not a bad price at all. I dont know if you have ever trained a dog but if you were to buy a pup with his breeding and train it up RIGHT to 8 months you would have more then that into it. As for him running a puppy mill thats just a very ignorant thing to say. He is a very well know and successful breeder and trainer of Big game Hounds. I do not know if you have other issues with him or you are maybe jealous of his outstanding success? I then see you are calling some of the other members stupid as for what they do with thier dogs after they get them from Mike. I would love for you to share your training program with us? I guess I missed the part were you told us all about your successful training program? I must say I am new to this whole game I have only been breeding, raising, and training Big Game Hounds for the last 53 years. But to all of you that are asking about Mikes dogs they are well worth the price asked.

Some people like Brushstomper are either jealous or ignorant. Most these guys running their mouths are pissed somebody is makeing an honest living doing what they love.I have a pack full of mikes dogs . I have never showed them a drag or a caged animal, that kind of shit is not necesary with these dogs. Just take them to the woods and turn them loose at 8 mouths old and expect them to make every race in rough country. I have judged this strain very hard because of the money spent. They are worth every f''''''king dollar!
Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp

Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp
I am sure Mike has some great pups, but my question is what is a 7 month old pup worth that can start and finish a lynx track , locate in a spruce swamp and keep it treed for 1/2 hour, on its own with out any previous scent training. Priceless???

Re: Dogs from Mike Kemp
Brushstomper, I bought the two dogs from mike and i did run a (Mike Leonard cat training) drag for them just so I could see where they were at on tracking long distancese. I have made it perfectly clear that i am new to owning hounds. So I am doing everything i can do to make these dogs the best i can. I have owned a big game outfitting business for many many years and im very successful at it. Before buying my pups, I researched and looked at many many dogs for sale in the 1500 to 2000 dollar range and guys probably like you, were the ones lying about how good their dogs were and how bad kemps dogs were. All i did was drive around while guys made excuses of why the dogs wasnt hunting well....It wasnt hard for me to make the right choice. Just this weekend, I went with a well know houndsman hunting this weekend and he spent the whole time shocking his dogs off of mule deer while my pups ran cats. The excuse i got was mule deer dont smell like Black tail. So Brushstomper,,

You know I am new to this but Damn some people are just hard on guys here I wonder what the sh#t talkers on here would say if they were'nt behind a monitor and a keyboard. I've heard nothing but good things about Mike never met the guy but reputation is all you got and he seems to have a good one. I bet he would laugh knowing this many people most of whom he don't know are having such a conversation about him. Just my two cents!!!!
