Me exaggerate not a chance.
Some one made a post a while back about speed.
A hound can only move scent at a given pace.
Some faster than others.
Hot tracks can be winded and a high speed run ensues.
But a fast dog can only move the track so fast depending on the scent and other variable wind, temp, humidity etc.
I do have a little bitch that looks like the greyhounds or wippets we used as site hounds up on the hi line.
When we jump a Bobber she will close the gap in seconds.
I always make her wait till other dogs are long gone before she gets unleashed on a lion because she catches them on the ground running silent.
She is young and constatly out runs the track when it is slow going but in time she will learn to slow down and keep her head down to move the track.
We all know it doesn't take a dog with speed to catch game it takes adog with a nose and brains and feet.
Believe me guys if I thought breeding wippet into my hounds could save them from the wolves I would do it.
But I know you can't have it both ways.
Wait a minute
Lion tracker I am from Montana but I heard about Green many moons ago
when I was runner for a outfiitter.
I remember this outfitter taken about Green and his dogs.
Killed a ton of lions over the years.

Look at those big wide chest cavities on those blue ticks.
Heavy skulls and good lookin feet. I can't see aside pic but his blood tells me enough.
When someone asks what are the features of a big game hound just show them a pic of a blue tick that is put togther like that one.
Lets all sing the Blues

boy I thought you would know beter

Example of burnen-whole-in-the-wind-speed
A field trial in central Ca. 84 erra and open divission is whippitts mostly and other class is all HOUNDS ONLY
The course is run and rerun same dragg sets all day long for either class of hound on sunday the next day semis, then finals and posted winners. Well the coondog winners are watchen the whippett class open compititions and after wards a gamblen bet is made and there is 8 hounds entered in a one next only heat, same layed course and it might as well be a sight race its practacly a trench worn in the ground from over500 dogs have run that same course for 2 days now !
4 whipps 4 walker coon dogs and each had a piece of first or second line and first or second tree. So they didnt have no whippett tree placements andused 3-4 place line placements off the whippett finals heat placements too fill in.
First line & Second line went too Country Boy & City Girl (both was UKC Treeing Walkers Coon Hounds) whippittsclose but no cigar !The walkers can run with em too any fast line of breding coon hound devoluped too run a whole in the wind can

Hey Guys, If you are interested in Bill Green and his dogs you need to get with my brother, John Green. He has been having trouble posting on here for some reason but I am sure he would love to talk to any of you so that he might learn some more himself.
He has researched Bill's dogs and their blood lines about as much as anyone I guess. He also has a pile of pictures and some videos as well.
PM me your e mails and I will forward them to him.
Thanks,
Jesse Green

We would buy a pup out of say Vaughn`s kennel crossing pups and it would say in his UKC pedrgee Vaughn`s Blawwen Blue Bawller and bottem side OO Grants (so-n-so) and we had to ask the breeder who sold us the pup out of their line if we could name ouir pup starting with his kennel name first in line ! We did that so later others ould know what he carrys behind him in lines.
I looked at the lions & hunters and dogs and kind of think from my memorys of many yrs ago, I seen that pic. nd studyed it too get to know in my study of the Vaughn & OO Grant lines. ButI could be wrong/ it has been many yrs. too try and recall corectly. I have no problem reconigzineing a vaughn crossed showing Grant likesess as I had 1 just like him in the 61 erra and he come from Vaughns pens and had OO Granton the bottem side and that cross madea beautifull velvett valure coated soft dapplen collor and pts on head & root of tail was same and mone had high tan specklens on all 4 lower legs also.
So maybe Mr. Green kept his blues regesrered as UKC sujested us too due back them ((with the breeders concent) too the line they come out of ?
Maybe not too ?!

Green's Blue
Ann of Fairlee
Bill's Blue
Green Mountain (a few of these but someone had this name as well in Vermont)
Bill was well known for buying any dog that he felt was worth hunting behind and if they panned out putting them in to breeding stock. Seems like he was more worried about ability than breeding.
John is headed to Montana in a few weeks to spend time with a guy that hunted with Bill regularly years ago and knows a great deal about the dogs as well. I am sure John will have plenty of good stories when he returns!

Big Blue as I called him was 88 lbs and he was as big and raw boned as the dogs Mr.Green kept and yet at 2 yrs old he could run right up their fairly close behind on a race of a tuleys gray fox with my 57 lb Smokey River Bluetick Smokey River Blue Monk/ I called him Ole Arkie . I run the 2 of em for a full summer on Sacramento Valley gray fox too get em trimed and foggen and thredden the needle andrunnen real close tracks on gray fox, then whipped em offand kept em a dieat of coon, bobcat, mtn lion from then on and a few bear.
Both hounds was full gamed too the core and I never went too the hills with em, that they didn`t run something and tree it up, or put it in a cave in therocks .I didn`t realize for many years how special that was, shoot I`ve owned colder noised hounds and faster hounds sence them old first days but thinken back is all I did was turn em loose and the would go find a track and get it goen and finish it/ a lot of bobcat tracks with em was knock downdragg outs but by just befor dawn would brake they would felld tree up/ and have the game up allright.

I sure hope so. I really like how early he started, his speed and stamina at an early age and his ease of handling. Ya just never know, but a Texan once told me that "you can't get slapped unless you ask"!
