Right on and big Blue Scout reared up on the horse smelling the kitty. Old Bill was a class act: a young man with a real touch for animals from way back on the east coast, trained up by the Lee Brothers of Arizona. He never needed anybody after his first training that was took to heart and although raised back east he was at ease in the saddle and out west as those raised there. He not only was a hand with hounds and horses but trained all sorts od excotic critters as well. I often think about him and my own Dad they were born the same year and wonder what else they might have been able to do in their lives if they hadn't been hooked on smoking one more coffin nail after another. Oh well that's the way it happened . But none the less Bill Green is a historic and memorable big game hunter and I sure would have loved to rode a few miles with him.

I will agree that a big "old fashioned" type hound that can even just hang with these "modern" speed demon types is rare and hard to find. Even more rare, almost impossible is one that could lead the pack. The pup in the below pic is 11 mo. old and at 8 mo'.s he started showing me that it may be possible. I put him and his full Cameron father down on a female lion that is notorius for not treeing. Her M.O. is bay-up and run - all day ... until she can loose the dogs in the rims. She doesn't get caught very often.On this morning it was 13 degrees at 7:30 a.m. There was only about 40% patch snow, which was glazed over hard and the rest was frozen mud. The temp. went up to 50 degrees by noon. They bayed her up three times and every time I got close she would jump and run again. At dark they had her again but I couldn't get up through the cliffs. I spent the night in the truck listening to their collars. At 6:00 a.m. I went to town for more food and water. I got back at 8:00 a.m. and they were gone. They had left the country. I pulled out and started searching. At 2:30 in the afternoon I got a signal and could only get within 3 1/2 miles of them so I put on the snowshoes and walked in. When I got to them they had her treed by an old kill 12 miles from where we started. Now this was the first wild game track this pup had ever scented. I saw most of the race the previous day and this pup was not me too-ing it. So anything is possible no matter how improbable. They are out there ... but they are few and far between.

Hey about this bullshit that a bluetick or redtick or Black and tan or Red bone can't out run a high speed walker.
I have a half and half blue and red and this bitch will out run most grey hounds.
Bring me any walker in the country and lets get it done.
I don,t care if it is a drag race around the block or in the rough country in your post.

Now I love a good walker and would take the next good one to croos my path but they aren't the only dog that can scatter it's own shit.

But if I do decide to start walkin backwards it's because that walker can do what my other dogs can do by it's self. ( I haven't found that yet.....)

I think the better camerons were back in the 80's but I my be wrong.

Boy its senic looken, but trecheriouse stuff and a hound could well get hung up and hunter to ! That kind of area will allways hold lion cause its pretty remote & one wrong move, one wrong step/ by by !

BY - By is exactly where the last guy to hunt here went. I'm pretty well geared up though and 1/2 mountain goat. Not only is there good scenery and big Toms, but there is NO one else in there.
