Guys,Haslouer was a blue tick breeder
of national fame. Sold blues in All the
states and other countries.Anyway ,
Shade I agree that top dogs are harder
to find, back in the 70's you could find
several guys around that had top male
cat dogs to breed to. Nowadays It's extremely difficult as most guys hunt packs on bobcat. I finally found one
in California that trees his own game.
Absolutely nothing like the old days.

Re: The demise of the hound
Shade, I understand where you are coming from because I got out of fox/cat hunting for several years. When I went to get back into fox/cat hounds I had a heck of a time finding hounds that suited me due to everybody else around here had quit too due to no place to hunt. A couple of guys I met on this site, who I now consider good friends, put me back in business.
If you describe breed preferences and what game you're hunting somebody on here may help you out.

Re: The demise of the hound
Coon hunt mostly I've had a few dogs over the years that would put a cat up but only in the lower areas. Once they hit the rocks the odds of catching dropped to zero. I'm planning on one or two straight coon dogs and at least two cat dogs . My old male is hell on coon at one time he was pretty good on cats but as age has crept in he wants nothing to do with a cat track. I guess the thought of all that running for something he can no longer catch has caught up with him. Never had a problem with him around others but now he is content for me and the boys to go with him but he has no tolerance for youngster's bouncing around him. I've got two others a cut male and female that hunt and tree well enough to get in the woods with both under 3 but don't have the ability or drive I'm looking for. I'll be focused on cats mostly with a couple nights a week just going coon hunting with the boys. My ground is timberland and rock only a few good dustings a year with a snow maybe twice. I've looked at enough papers to last last a lifetime don't care if I ever see another set. And I'm particularly fond of high tan dogs . Hopefully that sums it up.

Perk don't think anymore about it no offense taken. The reason I don't know where to get those dogs anymore is because the men that raised them are dead or have been shipped off to the homes for worn out old houndsmen.
Re: The demise of the hound
Picked up two more sense I last posted. Went to Virginia and picked up a pocahontas plott. Young and still got a lot of pup in him we'll see. But had a male given to me by an older fellow that wanted to get started again but decided that with no one younger to go with it was a bad idea. Walker head blue tick on body with red ticks on his legs so anybodys guess is as good as mine. He has no clue what it's all about but we'll fix that .
