Boy now you are touching on something that most guys on here can't even imagine.
I totaly agree with you on this point I have seen it. A guy that hunts everyday truely can make a so so dog a pretty nice dog but also a natuaral born top dog can also be ruined by not getting the exposure it need, say sitting in the kennel for 8 months??? Would it not be better off running bear(on the off season) even if it favored running cats??? Is it still not learning and developing much needed skills??? Not to mention the physical aspects.

..Geez what do you know Paco :D , you dont even have actual credentials after your name, at least put "semi-pro" or something before you assume advisory status to these impressionable young lads.

Other wise we all wont know if your "board certified" to offer information or opinions on hound related matters!

I don't think my hounds or I either one would want to hunt everyday, cause damn it sure feels good to go back to work and rest up a few days. My hounds do get hunted year round, on either lions or bears cause we have a year long season. However, if I hunt more than three or four days I'm ready for a break and so are my hounds (and a couple days on the weekend is plenty). If a killer is riding along with me and those hounds, well, it better pay well if the hunt stretches out. I guess you guys and your hounds are just tougher than we are...............

the best hound i ever hunted with was a trackdown black&tan and this hound would cold trail jump and put in a tree or bay bear bobcat coyote and yes he made it out to your neck of the woods and treed a lion. in my opinion this was an outstanding hound and i havent hunted with another like him. so there are some out there that can do it all with style, and for the record i personally was on over 20 bobcat kills well over 150 coyote kills and i cant count how many bear trees this hound was in on and if we lived out west there would have been more than one lion, i cant judge lion hunting on just one lion but this on was cold trailed for one hour and when he jumped he was in the tree in 20 minutes i thought man this is easier than running bear or bobcat but after reading some of the stories im not so sure, if there ever was an all purpose hound old jack was it

Paco, I'd like to meet you, I like your thinkin.

I agree with you, but BIG GAME to me is Lion and Bear. Bobcats are all over and it's tough to explain cold trailing bobcats all day when you have a hunter in from Texas chompin at the bit to see a lion. I am not rich I cannot afford to keep 20 dogs like a lot of the guys who have those specialty dogs. I will probably piss somebody off but I will never own a plott, i have never seen one cold trail a lion on the dirt. My buddy has 5. They sit in the kennel all winter. Man they bite a bear though.

Nolte I was gonna post earlier but you say everything good enough for me already. Take it easy everybody keep up the great conversation till I get back from bear huntin on tuesday.

Liontracker what breeding is the dog that will trail a 5 day old track in the crusted mud, bring it down here and lets make a circle. If he is who you thought he was I'd like to breed to em.

Location: Durango, CO These pups just turned 5 months old. I had them out the other day and they looked pretty gamey. Over on one corner of my property there is an opening in the oak brush that a bobcat had walked through. This track was made the day after the last snow and was 5 days old. The track was on top and didn't break through. It was melted out bad and almost the size of a Lion track by then. I thought what the heck, lets just see something. So I walked them across it at a right angle to it. To my surprise they took it and started down it. They were even going the right direction! I just stood there and watched them work and in a few seconds they had trailed out of my sight. Rather than say anything I followed along to watch. After a few minutes I still hadn't seen them and they were moving out faster. I am surrounded by private land and they were heading for a couple of roads. Now I was worried about them getting hit by a car, so I ran after them as fast as I could. It took me a half a mile or so to catch up to them and when I did, they were under a juniper tree where the cat had layed up for a while. They were scenting all the lower branches, the trunk and all the rabbit tracks trying to sort things out. They never opened, but I wouldn't expect them to at that age on such an old track. I gathered them up and headed back home. The whole way, all I could think about was the possibilities come March, when they are old enough to hunt for real! I have my own thoughts, but what do you guys think?
I do NOT have 5 month old pups that will run a 5 day old bobcat(frozen in the dirt) track like you do. I just have these crossed up coon dogs.
Not frozen dirt track,it was a snow track.

For the life of me I can not figure out where you are coming from.

Must be one of three things though:
1. Ignorance
2. Jealousy
3. Drugs and/or alcohol
