Daniel,

I am not trying to be a smart alleck. You are humorous because I see your passion and it reminds me of myself at 23. Although I don't agree with you on your wildlife management plan or your romanticized views of Claude Dallas. I still see an idealistic young guy with enough brass to get in the fight and just enough experience to get knocked on your butt. There is nothing wrong with getting knocked on your butt a few times as long as you learn something along the way.

When you were two years old I was a boot at San Diego MCRD. When you were three I was in Kuwait City as a Lance Corporal Fire Team Leader in a Marine Rifle Company.

I have been a professional law enforcement officer for nearly twenty years.

I co founded and serve as president of this organization in my home state of Indiana

If you want to get in the fight. Take some time to read thru that site. We are in the fight everyday. If you want to be in the fight like you said, get started.

sure turned into a heated post. my question is how many of the people on here would be alive if we all lived of the land? I saw the survival of the fittest mentioned. how many of you believe that means you? does that mean the baddest guys on the block have nothing to fear? B.S I have seen some of the strongest healthiest people I know die. it doesn't take any longer without food or water for them to die, it doesn't take more blood loss or physical damage. and growing up none of us qualified as bad. how many parents have sit up with sick kids and worried more about it then a firefight? if i had a choice between getting up and breaching a door on a room full of nuts or watching my kids get real sick? shit what a easy choice! there isn't much i wouldn't do to avoid that. how about your parents? would they be here to have you? the historic numbers say no most would have died of the flu or some other childhood tragedy. people have come to far to go back on their own.. if you doubt it move to a third world country and live there as a native for a while. or wait until your sick as hell and go live of the land till you get better. we rose up as a species because for the most part we are smart enough to say hey i don't like being cold or hot or watching half your children die while your to busy growing food to feed the rest to do anything about it. so we did what we could and technology was born. I myself KNOW with out a doubt I would have died nine times in thirty three years. do the math. how many times may i have died ? I know most places i have the ability to live of the land it doesn't take a real long time to learn it either but i also know i could just as easily not make it because of some fluke in circumstance. I believe it's information and skills that should be kept alive and current. but how many people say hell when i retire i want to live in a dirt cave till i starve or freeze to death?

Daniel,

I just tried it and it works ????

Good points pegleg. Most people have no idea what it would take. It is survival 24/7. Everything you do is done to sustain life. I can't imagine trying to keep a family of , heck any number more than me.

There was atime when I could for short periods of time. But they were just short periods not a lifetime. Five years is a lifetime I would guess. I am too dang comfortable now. The first night away from mama's warmth is rough

I have a book written 1894 that belittles the current generation for their lack of survival skills? I thought about that looked and sure enough some cultures lost there true strange country survival skills as a people thousands of years ago. no if you wanted to live in say upstate NY in a primitive state how much general knowledge and area food specific knowledge would you Have to relearn? Some areas and seasons are easier to survive in then others. to be honest if I woke up one morning and all of our shit was gone I'd be one of the most terrified people on the planet. why? because there would be nothing anyone could do to have a decent chance of survival. the Aborigines are about the only people in a harsh environment that have enough knowledge left to survive. there are some people in rain forest type climates that subsist. but even the most primitive peoples use technology of some sort. hell your hound is technology. to me unless YOUR willing to strip buck ass and walk out the door forever you don't have much room claiming we should all do it. Yes I see what humanities rise to the top has done to the world and don't agree with it all. but a few flies in the soup are better then no soup.

I love my computer and don't care to live off the land. Just imagine if a guy was living in a cave, eating deer, bear or lion meat, and building a fire to warm up..... who would he fight with?

I can remember striking off on my bow hunts thirty years ago, my horse, a little grub that didn't need a cooler, no cell phone to check in, and my wife not knowing whether I was alive or dead for a week or more at a time. I like technology! Hunting is great fun but I've gotten spoiled kind of like modern day conveniences. I'll let the rest of you go back to yesterday, a simple time that had it's own problems but not me. Just imagine how early Americans felt watching their children head west and knowing they would most likely never see them again. I like knowing my wife has a cell phone, that I have one, that my grown children have them as well. It's great fun to go relive and visit the past and challenge the back-country but I'll let the rest of you stay in that time period cause it ain't for me......

good read,
ike

I don;t know you but there are variations and levels of severity. I'm sure you're a great guy but Claude Dallas broke the law lots.

Also, a guy can break the wrong law once and IMO he is a cull....ex. murder, sex crime etc

But Benny, I'm guessing yours wasn't that bad was it?
